In the last few year the Gundy motorcycle club has been slowly dying due to comittee members being far to busy with work and other comitments.

We have finally had an AGM and a whole new comittee has taken it on now and looks to be going forward in leaps and bounds.

In just two weeks since we’ve had the AGM we have had a working bee to clean the track up which involveed 30 volunteers, 3 bobcats, 2 loaders, 2 slashers and numerous whipper snippers and brush cutters.

On sunday we had our first practice day which brought 58 riders from as far away as Moree, Warialda and Toowoomba which is not bad for our first run.

If anyone would like to keep up with whats happening we have a Face Book page called “Goondiwindi Motorcycle Club Inc”. Just find the page and choose to ‘Like’ it and you should get notifications from the page (I think).

I know it’s not trailriding but but it is good fitness and cross training for trailriding and enduro’s!! :P

    G’day gibbit,

We tried unsuccessfully to get Gundi to hold a round of the northern inland pony express series a few years back. They weren’t interested/motivated then which I can understand when you haven’t got a motivated committee. Not saying I’m asking again now as we have more than enough rounds in the series as it is but this will change some time in the future as all things do so if you are keen on expanding into enduro in the future then this may be a possibility down the track. Griff and Andrew (if you know them) have done a few rounds. You’ll have to come down to the bike territory ride on april 9/10 (see organise a ride section) and check out one of the tracks.

PS. Forgot to say congratulations on getting the club up and going again. It’ll be a good thing and with three on the ground (well soon anyway) it looks like you might be involved for a while. Just make sure to spread the load with the jobs and all will be sweet.

If I can give you a hand with advice on paperwork/organisation etc then make sure you ask. I’m guessing MQLD would be much the same as MNSW in the way things work. Most things are fairly easy but if the committee is all new then there may be a couple of things you need a hand with.

Thanks Bundy!! I know we do have an enduro account and our new president is more into enduro and pony express so there could be a chance of joining the inland series down the track (excess the pun)a bit. I would love to use the Gundy 400 track cause i like the high speed stuff hence why i want to do Hattah and Finke.

I did see the ride organised at Bike Teritory and it pricked my ears a bit I will have to see if I can make it.

Thanks for the offer for advise about paperwork. In the last couple of weeks we have become quite good freinds with the people at MQLD and they are great to get along with so we will see how we go.

Don’t Pony X have a rule that the tracks will have an average speed around 50Kph ??? I was talking to Chris Thomas about that track(Gundy 400) when they allowed bikes and he said it was very fast. Yes he is fast but the average from what I heard back then would have been closer to 100kph or higher???. Also congrats on the club re vamp!

You could be right Aaron. I am pretty new into the legalities of it all. It would be something we would have to look into when/if the time comes. The rest of the commitee may not want to use it either. Or maybe we wouldn’t be allowed to use it if it’s CAMS registered. I don’t know. But I would love to have a crack at riding it as I didn’t live in Gundy when you could race bikes there. It would certainly be a fast track.

Had a look into that average speed rule for pony express once. Problem is I can’t remember what I found out but I have a feeling I wasn’t pleasantly surprised and there was an average speed thing of around 25 km/hr or something very low. I don’t think they worry to much about it though. In our series you would average low 30’s on most tracks and at best low 40’s if you’re real good at moree.

I’m sure there would be ways around it if you talked to MQLD. They seem much more relaxed and realistic than MNSW from my limited experience. I went to a 2 day state round enduro at Goomburra a couple of years ago and it was more relaxed than one of our pony expresses and that’s saying something.

Gibbit, make sure you post up any enduro type events you blokes are putting on as I for one have not heard of any. Do you have a website with a race calendar. If you are looking for pony express dates go to http://www.narrabridirtbikeclub.com

I don’t think we will be doing any enduro type events for a while yet Bundy. I think the focus at the moment would be to get the motorcross track and facillities up to scratch and to boost our membership numbers.

We don’t have a website as yet. We just have the face book page which is run by our president Steven O’Toole. Both Toolie and I will be doing pony express this year. We will have different partners. He will be A grade with Griffo (I think) and I will do B grade.

We don’t have a calender yet. At our next meeting we will look at Inverell, Narribri and Moree dates and work ours around them and the pony express so there are no double-bookings. I’m not sure if the plan is to run any race meets this year. We may be too late to organise this year. Practise days are our focus at the moment.

Good luck with organising the dates. In the end it will always clash with something but that’s life. As a general rule, moree races 1st sunday of the month, Narrabri the 2nd and Inverell the 3rd Sunday. The pony express is sort of random. It is basically one race per month with the races as evenly spaced out as possible. There are not a lot of people in the pony express that are serious about MX racing as well so we don’t worry to much about clashes. As funny as it sounds, it is bloody hard to organise the calendar so there are minimal clashes. The only ones you definitely can’t clash with are the national mx titles at Moree and Coonabarabran. I can’t remember the dates but they are some time in June and July I think.

Good to see another team in a grade. We are a bit light on for those blokes. I’ll see you at the start line in B grade though.

Yeah its not going to be easy to please everyone when doing the calender. I prefer the Pony Express more than MX myself.

The above calender is what I have been looking at so far.

Toolie and Griffo were in A grade last year. They came fourth overall and missed the first. round at Armidale. See below.

I went to the MX nats. in Moree last year. It was good to watch. I would have liked to see Tye do better. I am originally from Bourke too.

I don’t think I have met griffo and toolie yet. Looks like they had a few issues at upper horton. Flats I’m guessing. The blokes I know from Gundi are Brendan Griffiths and Andrew Arthur, so a different Griff. Those lazy shits only rode C grade, but didn’t see them at all last year.

That’s a good calendar that Inverell has up. Looks pretty right as far as I can tell. The only thing I noticed was with the pony express they have the host club down, not the actual place the race is at. One of the moree rounds is at coolatai and the last round hosted by Armidale is at Upper Horton and the first round is at Uralla.

It’s good to know somebody actually reads the points table as I get the pleasure of doing them up every race.

Good job on the points table. I will certainly be keeping an eye on it this season!! :P

I thought you may have been talking about Brenden. He brought a new bike last year too. Must be getting lazy in his old age. I don’t know Andrew.

I can’t remember what happened to the guys at Upper Horton. I’ll have to find out. I remember they had trouble with their laps at the end of one of the races. They shold have done one more lap but didn’t of something.

    Practice day on Sunday.

Hoping to start up an enduro at some stage. Maybe try to incorperate with the Gundy 400 Off Road (like Finke does), or start up the Nindigully 500 again.

Would love to see our own desert race
