Ok… so guys you know how girls can do two things at once…. well …….whilst I was out kiteboarding in Botany Bay after work this afternoon I also bought a bike trailer on ebay….. yee ha.
So my hiring a trailer days are over…. (did it once last weekend) and my financial brain took nano seconds to work out I needed to buy one.
So TB I should be right for the Nowra weekend of 12 Feb but thanks for your offer.
Now I need to learn trailer maintenance…. oh my brain is starting to hurt and my garage is starting to groan trying to fit all this in.

More than happy to swing thru.
I have lots a of bundy tickets that I’m more than happy to spend on you…. this time I want to use your tools whilst you watch/direct and drink… otherwise I never get dirty and learn.
Thanks TB.

February 2, 2011 at 7:41 am #195677Kat, I recommend regular maintenance of the wheel bearings, i.e. check bearings for condition and repack including replacing the seals.
Also pays to check the condition of the tyres including the spare, i.e. carcass condition and tread depth, and regularly check the tyre pressures.
You sometimes see trailers “dead” along the roadside because people don’t do simple preventative maintenance.
Ensure the coupling and safety chains are in “good nick” and lightly grease the coupling before use (wipe off the tow ball when finished otherwise you will get grease on your clothes).

Regards MickFebruary 12, 2011 at 6:06 pm #195593The trailer got it’s first outing this weekend and oh boy did I learn lots…
Here is the photo of the bike on the trailer Friday night all ready to head to Nowra. I was very pleased with myself……:cheer:
This is a photo of the trailer after doing the 1st section of Kangaroo Valley (ie just before getting to the KV shops. It was 6.30am and raining….
Oops…
Tried to get the bike up but didn’t stand a chance….. I did my best attempt of standing in the middle of the road and waving in my wet cloths trying to get help. It also helps to cry a bit tooooo. Two nice chaps helped me. Both tie’s must have worn through on the other tyre tracks and broke. The weekend of adventure has started and I haven’t got on the bike yet.
I hope this post has entertained you. Maybe I should have read aussie_king_mike link on towing guide.
Please no blonde statements  . At least I’m out there trying :S …. hard :pinch:
So my learnings for the weekend.
1. Use different tie points on trailer
2. Use different tie points on trailer
3. Use different tie points on trailerTakes 3 times for blonde’s to get it……. :woohoo:
February 12, 2011 at 6:17 pm #196735Opps Kat  I am aware that hind site is 20 20 vision but it looks as though the straps are running across the other bike runners which would cut through them super fast. Moto had a similar trailer and did the same thing or almost did I think. The straps can’t be rubbing on anything or they break
Bad luck mate, I have had a bike fall of my trailer back in the very early days it happens, chin up

Thanks TB… good news is no damage to the bike…. only to my pride… but that’s ok. Nothing like learning the hard way.
February 12, 2011 at 6:21 pm #196736Were they cheap tie downs Kat? I had the same result with a cheap set and now only use quality ones. I can’t remember the name but all the bike shops stock them and they are around $50.

I suspect the multiple corners in Kangaroo Valley caused the tiedown to rub on the other tracks and I think TB is right they rubbed and eventually broke…. so off to buy some more tiedowns and yes I’ll head to a bike shop and get some good quality ones…. I so don’t need that stress before a ride. I get enough stress doing the ride.
