February 5, 2011 at 6:12 pm #195898What a trip home,,5 hours to do 250ks,, we tried to avoid as much blacktop as we could, found some sweet trails for future investigation in the process, Oh yeah thanks to all for the weekend,,That museum was unbelievable, we didnt it leave until 09.00 this morning to start the long ride home, not 1 issue for the whole trip, we even found Billies number plate for him on the way home.

February 5, 2011 at 6:18 pm #195905EAGLE`s Nabiac Run,
Well, after another 2 hour sleep after a week of Dogwatch, I woke to a message from TB! They wear an hour to an hour & a half from Laguna, so I kitted up & headed off to attempt a meet up at the Wine Bar. It was already quite warmish as I left & just got warmer & drier as I headed out thru Sugarloaf, Mulbring, Abernethy, Cessnock, Bellbird & finally arrived at Wollombi Tavern where they were nowhere to be seen, so I hiked it to Laguna & the guy at the bar assured me they had not been there as yet
So I stripped down a bit with a cool drink & sat in the shade for only 10 mins before they rolled in.
The commuter waitin at Laguna
After a few greetings and a cool ale, we all headed off up Watagan Creek Rd into the dusty Wattos!!!
It was interesting how Chris had a little laydown on the Kato 690 on a seemingly nothing doing section, breaking a mirror & bending his bars!!! Apparently it wasn`t his first for the day either , but he seemed to peddle pretty damn well the remainder of the day.On arrival at the Kitchener Pub we did the usual & hit the Bar with a vengeance before setting up camp in the Beer Garden that the publican kindly let us use for the night for a small fee (we even got to use the showers) . After we ordered dinner, Jeffro rolled in with beer in hand to check on the proceedings, and I think was not surprised to see us all fairly well on the way to a cheery night!!!
Camp was setup & thank god we did camp out as it was hot as 40 Arabian Summers upstairs where the rooms were :unsure:Kitchener Campsite
Tb working on the Ten`s brake pedal
All had hit the sack by 9.30 to attempt some sleep in readiness for the hot blast to come the next day!!!
More of the story & more pics to come later;)
February 5, 2011 at 7:42 pm #195906Here is the trip that ChrisT, Nickj, Boulder, Krusty and I did from Windsor to Nabiac. The return was only Boulder and I nursing his sic DR home. ChrisT went with Losta, Mickp, Gavb and Tryhard. Krusty’s DR did the trailer of shame trip, he decieded not ride because his bike needed roll starting (closed valves again) and wasnt idling well. And the lone Kawasaki :S well lets say it held a DRs hand home
Oh yeah the route
Story later

They are harder to start when cold because the valves are cold and aren’t heat expended and do take an effort to get going but trust me it would go.
At least its home
hope you shouted Owl 01 some stubbies  we must off passed him somewhere
I will post some pictures later, they have been uploaded but my helper didnt roll them over and some are on their side
Just checked my bike over, all good the new racks, bags and tyres did well

February 5, 2011 at 10:35 pm #195922my experience of adventure riding has now been completed, I think I qualify to have some comment on MY thoughts of this form of riding. Firstly I can see where people can like this form of riding because you do get to see alot of country side, and I mean alot.
The destination for this ride was world class and well worth the ride, However I personally prefer to ride the singles and fire trails found in the scrub. I found this form of ride to be something that would be a required taste (so to speek).
Any way that outa the way I might start posting a few piccies.Heres the ponies filling up before leaving tamworth.
February 5, 2011 at 10:38 pm #195927Boony dont post them thru the site it doesnt work yet, post them using photobucket please mate
thanks
February 5, 2011 at 10:47 pm #195923Great weekend, I ended up covering 1942km since last Wednesday an I’m really happy with the Tenere. Thanks to TB for giving me a bed for a couple of nights and helping me set up the Tenere for this ride, ( and taking the piss out of my bike š Although it’s almost identical to yours:blink: š )
The ride from windsor to Kitchener on Friday was good fun and I saw some parts of the country I didn’t know existed. The pub at Kitchener was tops with the coldest air con ever and a great beer garden/ adventure bikers camp spot!!
TB at the pub
Eagle with his soon to be doomed Kwaka
Boulder and chrisT
Lotsa and Mickp arriving in Saturday morning
After meeting with Lotsa , Mickp , gavb and tryhard we headed to Krambach pub traveling along a bit more tar than wanted ( new sub division and old mapping ment a turnaround but it was fun exploring) the trails through the Barrington tops were awesome and somewhere I want to revisit soon.
After meeting everyone at Krambach we headed to the museum. This place amazed me, I had no idea the would be that many bikes,
Boulder searching for his villiers 175
Boony checking out the classics
A very strange bike with a stranger rear wheel!!
The museum owners put on a great BBQ , kept the beer cold and played bike movies all night!! Heaven!
The ride home with The wauhope/ mid north coast crew was a mix of fast gravel roads side by side with Toes to some tightish trails that strucky lead to get us to Lake Cathie.
Kram was the last familier biker I saw as he turned of in Kempsey for Crescent head. Then I sat back and blasted the last 3 1/2 hours home smiling about the last few days.
Thanks to all the old bulls for making another memorable weekend and to the museum for laying on a top night.
Cheers
Nickj

TBNo Worries.. It could also be the shit fuel issues as well as I haven’t cleaned it yet.. I’m gonna try again when I put the stock tank on..
Will do ride report tomorrow and post the photos tomorrow..
OWL 01 had a lag at the Eagle nest as well as lags and Bundy’s at my place.. I must say one of the highlights for the wekend was seeing the super duper man cave buried under the Eagle nest.. :woohoo: Dream setup..
ugh I just got home from work too, as I had to go fix the issues from Saturday morning..
February 5, 2011 at 11:11 pm #195928The long anticipated morning of the Nabiac ride dawned clear but warm, little did we know how warm the day would become. At 8am I was kitted ,loaded up and on the road headed for our meeting point at Timbertown. When I got there, all but Kram was there ready to roll. Kram turned up a minute later and we headed off on what was to be a great (but hot) day on the bikes.
We had an unusual mixture of bikes too.
2 x NX650ās
XR600
Vstrom
WR450
KTM525
Husky 310
TT600At Timbertown
We hit the bush straight away and made our way up and over Bago headed for Comboyne.
All the pre-running in the world canāt foresee trees coming down and blocking trails. Here was the first ālittle test for Toes on the Vstrom. Nothing compared to what awaited him.hahahhahahhaha
I had told Toes that the trails we were taking could easily been done on a Harley. (I lied)
First stop so everyone could check their gear and have a smoke.
We Cruised a mixture of main trails, disused firetrails and a few single trails just to make it interesting for Toes on the Vstrom until we got to Comboyne Rock,
we had a quick look at the view and headed off along the rim of the Comboyne plateau taking in some great views along the way.
In order to avoid as much tar road as we could, we went through a ātrailā on a friendās property and had another stop, just to take in the views to be had out over Landsdowne.
Aero showed us he could wheelie the TT.
See the log in the foreground???
At that stage Aero hadnāt. Lucky he pulled it up just in time.
Bloody Nice TT you have Aero. Wouldnāt mind a ride one day.
From there we headed to Elands store for our first top up of fuel. I had rung in advance to see if fuel was going to be available.(good idea, don’t reley on them having fuel)
This is where we met up with Kevdog on his (new to him) DRZ400, he had waited patiently for us, as by this stage we were about a hour later than I anticipated. Sorry about that Kev.
We topped up with fuel and a drink while the boys chatted up the local talent.I had intended to go to Ellenborough falls for a look but time constraints meant we had to bypass the Falls and Blue Knob look out if we were to get to Krambach to meet the rest of the guys at the pub by 1.30.
I wheeled the old NX down Knodingbull road like a man possessed trying my hardest to leave Toes in my dust and was making great time, when once again true to my latest form I was stung on the arm by a wasp of some sort and could feel my arm swelling as I went. I eventually got the stinger out of my arm when we got to the pub. By then my arm was starting to look like Popeyeās.
I pulled up at the Sonnyās camp trail intersection and we had a spell there, before I asked the group if they would be keen to give the trail a go. Looking up it, the trail was covered in leaf mulch and looked very inviting. I explained to the guys that I had seen it on Google earth but didnāt know what the trail had in store for us or how steep it got. A unanimous vote saw us take Sonnyās trail, by this time the temperature was in the high 30ās,probably in hindsight we should have stayed on the main trail.
As we descended in the Valley the trail got steeper and steeper and the rutts started to get rather large (all the while I was assessing whether we could get back up if it went to shit)
I dropped down a particularly steep rocky section and thought to my self that was our last chance to get out the way we had come, so I pulled up and stopped the Group and tried to ride back up to them but the NX wanted no part of it and sat and pig rooted and carried on. I dropped her 3 times in the process of going backwards down the hill looking for somewhere to turn around again.
I sent Aero on ahead to see what was further ahead as the TT600 can handle everything. He returned with the good news that at the bottom it was plain sailing with awesome leafy trails. I asked the group whether they were prepared to go on and they said yeahhh! It was interesting to say the least as you had to let your bike roll and try and wash your speed off at the bottom.
Kevdog went down it easy
Toes got the Strom down with no dramas, not like the guy in the background of the pic.
Further into the Valley of death
This was a pretty serious down hill for any bike, by the time we got to the bottom we were over heating and exhausted. I sucked my camel back dry as the heat was stifeling and we found a creek that offered welcome relief from the heat.
At the bottom we were rewarded with some great leafy trails that made their way up the other side of the valley. The climb out of the Valley was fantastic and well worth the effort of the previous down hill.
We regathered at the top and then headed down the main forest trail, spaced out considerably because of the dust. We were still in the middle of nowhere when I rounded a corner and I couldnāt believe my eyes. There walking down the road was a 18 year old hottie!!! Complete with tiny little shorts and a tiny little tank top!! She was obviously suffering from the heat, so I pulled up and she readily got on the back of the NX. She had been out in the bush in her car and had broken down and was walking back looking for help. I continued along slowly with the dear little thing on the back ,when the first of the boys caught up to me,I would love to know what went through their head when they first realised I had a young bird on the back!!!
Anyhow I doubled her for a about 10kms to her friends place and bade her farewell, after that the boys were riding up beside me wanting to Hi five!!
We hit Titri road and cruised along until we got to Richardās place. Richard gave me a tube a few weeks ago on the pre run when I managed to get several flat tyres. I replaced the tube he gave me and headed off to Krambach pub to meet the rest of the Old Bulls for the final leg into Nabiac
More laterā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦.
February 5, 2011 at 11:21 pm #195931Some shenanigans on the way to breakfast at the Museum
When confronted with two options of arriving to a destination, both need to be explored
option 1
option 2
After breky Sunday morning, a course was set on GavBās new Garmin Zumo and the Central Coast crew set off from Nabiac for home.
We traveled through Wallamba SF, Wang Wauk SF, Buladelah SF
GavB and MickP GPSing
We were a bit reluctant to take Purgatory Rd, but it worked out ok
Gav led us down a steep decent
Just before we hit Buladelah
Stopped of for a drink and a latte at the first air conditioned shop we found in Buladelah. There was an old lady outside with a water misting spray bottle spraying another old lady to keep themselves cool. Should have fitted one to the dash of the bike. A spray water bottleā¦ā¦..not an old lady.
Sweet sweet airconditioning
Gav extending his leave pass
Back into the dirt we hit Myall Lakes SF and NP, and popped out onto the Buckets Way 3km south of Stroud.
Some rutty tracks and bog holes
We tried a couple of tracks to get across to Black Camp road but struck a few obstacles.
locked gate
Plan B planning
Second go to get across we came across mr farmer who bluffed us into not going through his property. Weāll have a go from the other side next time through.
GavB chatting to distract mr farmer while we snuck around and let his tyres down. Nah, not really.
Plan C meeting and we decided to tar it to Hexam roundabout where GavB and MickP would split from Chris and myself where we carried on to Kurri Kurri, Sandy Cr Rd and up through the Watagans, Yaramalong and Ourimbah SF.
Over the shoulder shot of Chris
it started raining at Kurri Kurri where we fueled and had a maggot bag
By the time we hit the Watagans there was no dust and the tracks we watered just right. Perfect.
Breather at the pines
Welcome to Ourimbah SF
Chris and I swapped bikes at the letter A to Wyong interchange. KTM 690, what a bike, what a hard seat. How does anyone do it without an air hawk. Seriously good bike though.
Chris and I parted at the Wyong freeway and the bike got a car lovers treatment and I got Thia takaway and a coldie or 2.
Cheers all involved in putting it on and great to meet up with old an new faces.
