Well after a bit of thought i am thinking about stepping back onto a DRZ400. 1 because i need the extra money at the moment and 2 i enjoyed the simple life of the DRZ.
just need peoples thoughts on it?
February 28, 2011 at 12:38 pm #197440hey corey… Curious as to what makes the DRZ400 more simple than the KLX?
cheers…

easier to ride Krusty, more time to react for stuff like logs i find. on the other hand there is a not able power difference but i have not been on a ride that requires any more the a drz for ages and since i only got the old man with what he calls “pace” to deal with i don’t need the extra power LOL
lets watch him bite at that
February 28, 2011 at 1:27 pm #197441Ok.. simpler from a use perspective..
Good onya for adjusting to your actual needs..
cheers…
February 28, 2011 at 1:29 pm #197450I have never ridden a KLX but it is a bike I was considering before I bought the DRZ and still think about changing to.
I bought the 550 Berg for the extra power and lighter weight but it didn’t improve my riding any I don’t think although it does stop and turn better.
Since then I have had the suspension done on the DRZ and while I do miss the extra twist and go power of the Berg (but really only when I am trying to wheelstand the thing), I prefer to ride it now even though I have it geared more for the road . If I wasn’t so lazy I would put the bigger rear sprocket back on it to help ease the lossMaybe if I had the suspension done on the Berg it would be a different story but at the moment I find it more fatiguing to ride as it shakes the bejeezes out of me, I do love that power it has though.

I know just what you mean and even though the extra power is good it is not used very often

Funny that you say more time to react etc, if the throttle isn’t wound on as much I can’t see that there is alot of difference/time. Would have thought that 12kgs would be more of an issue than the amount you twist the throttle.
I don’t ride my 450 anywhere near it’s potential but the ease of riding with the extra power means that if i’m lazy I can still get away with it.
Maintenance is no biggy because we all change oil etc often, regardless of the bike, and none of us are riding wott to wear them out.IMO
But if change is the go than good luck with the swap over, I would expect a fair hit in the hip pocket thoughcheers Hatto
February 28, 2011 at 2:40 pm #197457Hey Hatto,
I see your point. Don’t get me wrong i think the KLX is the best bike i have ever owned but the DRZ is still one of the best all round bikes around i think.
but yeah just throwing ideas around at the moment
February 28, 2011 at 3:17 pm #197458in your thinking of the extra money, dose that mean you are thinking of selling your KLX and buying a second hand DRZ?? hopefully for less than you will sell your bike for.
other wise i would have thought keeping the bike you have would be more economical than changing bikes. maybe detune the KLX?? or put a restrictor in the muffler???
other than that i have little idea.

yes the idea would be to sell mine for 7k i would think with the 12.5lt tank and to buy a older DRZ for around the 5k mark.
i would never dream in trying to slow the KLX down lol
February 28, 2011 at 3:46 pm #197442Corey I love my DRZ and can’t see any reason to spend the extra cash to trade up to a bike like the KLX. That being said if I had a bike like the KLX/WR I don’t think I would trade back to a DRZ simply to free up some cash. You would have to find a good DRZ that doesn’t need anything done to it to make it worth while. By the time you sell the KLX, find a DRZ and maybe add a couple of things such as bash plates, rad guards and maybe some suspension work you will have to work out how much money you have leftover. Is that going to be enough to make the swap worthwhile.

February 28, 2011 at 4:14 pm #197443What year model Corey, because they do seem to go cheap, don’t seem to hold their value real well, but seem to be fairly bullet proof.
Same motor as the legend kx and has won a few 24hr enduro’s in a row.cheers Hatto

they call them an 08 but built in late 07
February 28, 2011 at 6:12 pm #197461I used to think that about my XR400 scotty, but the WR is soo much better the weight power and suspension make everything so much easier it makes you look better than you are.But the maintenence and chains and tyres and sprockets and fork seals etc are the price you pay though .I was gunna by a DR but I lent against it in the shop and it was heavier than the ten year old XR.It really depends on what riding you do and how good/big you are .Dont do it corey You will be regretting it on the coffs grade 5
