Just changed my air filter and there is a large puddle of oil in the air filter box between the air filter and the carby. It is red so I’m assuming that it is engine oil not air filter oil (blue). It may be petrol and oil I didn’t really check that hard. Is this a sign of something I should be rectifying. It’s a 300 2T.

Does the gearbox breather run into the air box Roy? I didn’t think they did but am wrong often  That’s the ONLY way it could get they isn’t it ;) sounds like filter oil but like you said the oil is a different colour  What filter oil do you use out of interest? You havent switched filter oils recently have you?

I know it’s not quite in the same ball park but… Charlies TTr50 is always drowning the airfilter with engine oil because of a breather between the case and the air intake. Is a pain in the butt when he drops it as it stops it running properly as you would expect. But it re oils the air cleaner and all you have to do is keep topping the engine up with oil.;)

Really only 2 possibilities. Filter oil or if you have been parking it upside down or on it’s side, premix with evaporated off fuel. It’s no big deal.

My Husaberg (’05 Model FE550e) can get oil in the airbox from the breather if it gets upside down. It can even get into the carby turning the bike into a smoke machine :D

Thanks for the replies. Haven’t changed air filter oil brand. I use Motul air filter oil (about the only brand the local shop stocks). My bike has been spending a lot of time on its side lately. Been practicing in one of the state forests and it is reasonably hard riding. Was looking at my bike last night and it starting to show the consequences of not staying upright.

I’m not sure about the breathers but I don’t think they do go to the air box and I certainly haven’t moved any there.

Thanks again and I will have to try a little harder to keep it tyres down.

If you haven’t moved any carbie or other breather hoses there are none that go any where near the airbox. The gearbox breather goes to the headstem between the radiators. I have extended mine up and along the frame to the top of the shock. I put my money on you laying it over on it’s side, the carbie as you know starts squirting fuel out all over the place when it’s on it’s side so it’s very likely some fuel will come out through some of the many holes and jets into your airbox. The fuel evaporates off as it has a crapload of air moves over it. Then your left with premix oil there.

That’s what I think it may be as axel said, rest of the premix fuel.
Another thing that can do this is if you have a breather between the air filter and carby and overfill
the air filter so it has trouble breathing it will try to get air from where ever it can, the daughter’s
thunster will do this when I over do it:ohmy:

My husky had a breather going to the rear of the airbox to burn of vapours i guess. Re routed it to under the seat and stuck a mini pod on the hose end, as i remember reading sopmething about it playing havoc with the Carb slide?
