    Fellas,

I usually don’t get to warm my chain before putting on the lube as it recomends. Appart from leaving my job ,what are your thoughts on warming it up with hot water and a hose whilst cleaning it? I always clean it with kero and a paintbrush after every ride, dry it off and apply the lube(BEL RAY chain lube). Any other suggestions ??

    Cheers Razor

I have never heard of anyone warming their chain. I just give mine a hit with the pressure washer (not too close with the nozzles though, usually keep it about 8 to 10 inches away) then spray with either WD-40 or lanolin. I don’t apply the chain lube until the day I am taking the bike out the next as part of my ride preparation

I do the same as Jeffro however, I apply the chain lube the day before the ride. I find that it sets better and doesn’t go all over the wheel and swing arm as much as when you apply and ride.

    Cheers Gaz

Back in the the good old days before the advent of “O”Ring chain and such we use take the chain off, wash it in kero then boil it in a chain grease. But now with modern chains that would not be practical after all the O ring is suppose to keep the dirt out. Spray on chain lube will lube the chain rollers and side plates, sprockets etc, so putting hot water or hot anything else on is rather pointless. To really lube the hole chain you would have to take it off and soak it in something that will get past the O rings to do the job properly.
By using the method 1st mentioned we used to get 2 or 3 seasons out of a chain, that was for motocross but for road-racing we used oil instead grease for odvious reasons.

Not so much warming but more the case of drying, I ride mine around the streets after washing the oil the chain with real chain lube. Wd40 and such do more harm than good IMO. The chain warms up inevitably, helping the lube. To work into the links v
