We are looking at getting a jet ski for work. Have been looking into insurance and can’t find anyone who insures them. Can anybody let me know who they use to insure theirs.

In case you were wondering what work you can do with a jet ski we put a gps and depth sounder on it to survey dams with water in them to determine the dam capacity.

    Thanks

I have no idea who would insure a jet ski Bundy. I would think it would be hard to insure one for personal/recreational use but if you are using it as a tool/work veichle then someone would insure it.

Is a tinny not suitable? Or is it way cooler to fang around on a jet ski? OR do you need the jet to get in the shallow areas of a dam. Are we talking big town/farming water supply dams or old mates paddock dams?

Good luck and don’t forget to post some pics of you fanging around old mates dam.

May have to try one of the dedicated boat insurers like ‘Club Marine Insurance’. I’m pretty sure they would do personal water craft’s.

Tried club marine and the likes and no go. One of our local brokers has someone so it will be interesting to see what the quote comes back as.

We do big farm dams. 50ha + in area generally. Could use a tinny and may have to in the end. A flat bottomed tinny may even be better as it wouldn’t tilt over in the water as much. Sounders cut out when depth gets much below 1.0m anyway. A tinny would probably be cheaper as well. Speed is not an issue as you are only just getting the jet ski on the plane at the speed you do the survey.

They will insure it if it is for private use but as soon as you say it is for work purposes they can’t back away fast enough. I would have thought it should be the other way around as you are likely to be more responsible when working.

hey Bundy, i just had a thought, how about a radio controlled boat??

as for not insuring it for work, i guess they deem it to large of a ‘risk’ to insure it. as you are supposed to have something like a $20mil public liability policy do you not? (but i would have thought that operating a business you would already hold a policy that covered that)

if you were to get all out of control and launch up a dam bank and mow all cocky mate down, they’d only have to cough up for the damage to any/all machinery and your’s and the cocky’s medicals.

yet if you were down at the beach 1/2 cut and using the surfers and swimmers as slalom buoys and got stuck at WOT, killed and/ or maimed several people they would almost go broke paying out for everyone’s expenses…… would they not???

maybe see if you can add it to a work vehicle policy???

the only other avenue you could try is asking (if you know of any) a licensed fishing or charter boat who they get their insurance through, see how much they want to bleed out of you.
