So this arvo with 20 thousand kilometres on the Tenere I though I best give it valve adjustment. I had the tank off for other work so it was the perfect time

Nickj has covered the tank removal before here, thanks. Here is the tank, I hadn’t realised before how big then tank was

Once the tank was off I checked access to the tappet covers, the inlet valve cover easy

The exhaust valve tappet cover not so easy but not the worst I have to deal with

The engine needs to be setup on TDC starting with removing the spark plug making the engine easier to turn over. Put the bike in 5th gear with the back wheel elevated so you can turn it over thus turning the engine over.
Next remove the timing plug from the top of the flywheel housing the centre plug is another way to turn the engine over instead of using the back wheel method

Inside the small plug there is a groove in the thread which lines up with mark on the flywheel for TDC

Remember to rotate the engine the correct direction of rotation (the way the engine normally runs) To check you have the correct rotation and to help you have the right mark and the engine set on TDC remember that you need to ohave the exhaust valves open and closes they close the inlet will open and close. After they close go real slow because the piston will be coming up on the compression stroke and so willthe timing mark. Once lined up whip he covers off and check the clearances.

Inlets being checked and .006 thousands of and inch right on spec

Exhausts are checked at the same time, all good as well

Put it back together and ride away no more the pay

Good stuff ! That all looks fairly easy !

How often would you recommend a valve check on an adventure bike ?

I think the factory recommends every 10,000 on the Tenere Nick but aren’t sure
