With the new YZ in the shed the young bloke was keen to hit some trails on it, so we headed up to the family’s property at Comboyne. WE had a cracker day even despite how wet the bush was, a weeks rain made some sections a bit “challenging”.
One last look at the YZ before it got filthy.

We have a good selection of terrain on the 640 acres, we have some open country trails.

Up until recently we had a great little loop through the bush, trouble is the inlaws have let some logging contractors in that have trashed some of our sweeter trails. Although in the process have cut a heap of new logging trails that will grow over in time and we will have some even sweeter stuff. One of the new trails they have cut heads up onto the ridge, we rode down it but when we tried to get up it the mud stopped us. It totally clogged the fiddy’s back wheel.

Some sections were very wet still

Since we got the YZ I have only put in about 5 minutes in the seat, today I managed to wrestle it from Connor’s grasp for a bit of a blast on it.

I think I might be to big for it going on this pic.

    SDC11195.jpg

Anyhow after getting a feel for it, I took off on it to do a loop on my own while Connor sat with the 650 and patiently waited.

While I was out in the bush trying to retrieve an upside down YZ that was all tangled in vines down over a bank, Connor took this pic of our extreme endure coarse we are working on.

Some of our trails remained unmolested by the loggers and my favorite hill is still as good as ever.

The creek crossings were still a challenge too.

    SDC11203.jpg

Not so much the creek being trick but the greasy red bank on the other side

    SDC11204.jpg

After lunch we went into the logged area to start cutting the trails of the future and Connor was having a ball on the new 250.

I will have to admit he has taken the transition from a 85 to a 250 in his stride and I was battling to catch him up some of the hills today!!

WE had a ball riding together today although Connor was left to ponder what became of his shiny new YZ

    SDC11219.jpg

A run home past the local car wash sorted that out though.

All in all great day out with my son!!
Bring on next weekend when we hit the same trails with Moose and his boys again, for the long weekend.

Just to straighten things up about crashing Connor’s bike. As you saw it was very wet, I came scarping down a trail that I know very well, only to round a corner to find a head of a tree across the trail. This particular section is greasy red clay, I managed to wash a ton of speed off but not enough and was faced with two options, 1: plough head first into the head of the tree or 2: bin it into some ferns growing beside the trail. Option 2 is what I took, the trouble was these ferns were about 8 feet tall and were obscuring the fact that there actually was a big bank there and the YZ disappeared down over the bank in slow motion, landing in a soft bed of ferns and vines that stopped it from disappearing further down what was a huge steep hill. The ground was that slippery I battled to retrieve the YZ on my own as I could hardly stand up on the greasy red clay and the vines had wrapped themselves around the bike.
BTW Connor had already crashed it twice before I had a go at it. Anyhow we still had a ball!!

Here is another pic of my favourite up hill trail anywhere on the coast. It is steeper than the photo depicts and it has some perfectly shaped erosion mounds on it.
