    1. My ‘new’ 300 is missing the fasteners from the LHS airbox cover. I believe they are supposed to be quick release doo-dads, but the parts book also lists what seem to be ‘plastic screws’. Are these plastic screws a replacement for tye QR parts?

Boltons lists the QRs at $56.00 each:blink:

    2. The parts lists only show a CENTRE stand up to the 2000 model. My MY2002 seems to have the lugs on the frame to take a centrestand. Will a centrestand fit? And any ideas where I could source one, apart from OEM new?

    Thanks

I think JD motorcycle wreckers in Toormina near Coffs Harbour is wrecking a couple of Kato’s give that a try. They are sometimes on ebay. The centre stand in my opinion is a pain in the arse, I may have a new side stand down stairs but will have to check.

Don’t put a centre stand on Beatle, they are dangerous on a dirt bike, coming off jumps especially.

The “Dzuz” fastners on your airbox “are” expensive, but a bolt place or online parts may get some for you, one of the Queensland Boys from DBW (DBW79) sent me 2 a few years back, I might still have them somewhere and I’ll have a look in the next few nights.

I wasn’t sure if they were actually ‘Dzus’ fasteners. The receptacle doesn’t seem to have the correct shaped slot. On second thought, they have probably snapped off, hence nothing to hold a fastener in place. Might try to tap a course thread in there and use a bolt.

No biggie though, the cover stays put, and I could probably rivet and glue some velcro on there as well.

On the sidestand issue, mine is quite serviceable, I just thought a centrestand may be handy. But the more I think about it, a c-stand would realy only be useful while the bike is in the shed, and I already have a lift stand for maintenance.

Anyone know the inner dimensions of the base of the sidestand? I might make an extended foot out of some tube. Does the plastic foot just pull out?

Mate you will find those holes in the frame at the bottom are not for a center stand but the factory skid pan attachment points. :) :)

As far as screws go the QR are the go, screws stuff up eventually, you also may find the price is for the whole assembly so if you still have the female slot part in your airbox then you only need the pins, and you can get them separately. :) :)

    ;)

This talk of Rivets screws and velcro are sounds of a Yamaha or Honda rider, snap out of it man, you ride the best now.:P :P :P

Nah I think he is correct in the first place. The lugs on the base of the frame are for a center stand. I had a similar year bike. Not that it matters really…. but I think your referring to the bolt holes in the frame for hard parts skid/bash plates which came out in later year models.

hey Mr Rat, the radiator cowlings what thread are those screws that go into the tank again? :P

I had a few of my airbox “quikfastners’ (dzuz) come adrift on mine, rat is right the female part is fairly hard to lose, and the male parts where $30 ea from the local KTM dealer (a local version of the Mint, where they make money) the other bikes I have seen them on is my old ’92 XR250 side covers, except from memory they were shorter.

BC the threaded screws that goes into the plastic are a K60 X 20 WS6 which means a 20mm long wide pitched screw…..hope that helps:)

STOP IT you blokes. You’re beginning to scare me. I’m yet to pull the tank or shrouds off so is there something I should be aware of.
