For all you XR650R fiends, was just surfing on DBW and noticed this ad for an 03 model XR650 with 86km on the clock. From the photo it looks like brand new. Heres the link http://www.dirtbikeworld.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61628

AnonymousYou’d have to be a bit dubious of the mileage wouldn’t you unless you knew the guy, it’s not like it’s hard to doctor the mileage of a dirt bike. Still looks brand new though

I wouldn’t do that
Those trip meters when you wind them back to reset them will do that. You could have 999km’s showing before it resets to zero.
I have met the guy that posted the adv. for his mate and have a fair idea of who owns the bike as he swapped a KTM 450EXC that he won at Sunny Corner for an XR650R. Thats if it is the person I am thinking of who is in Belmont District MCC.

You are right all the XR speedos do that Mickp, I was surprised that Mick D posted that about the milage in his post, I guess he is still new to XR’s

I’m afraid to say it here, but I have fond memories of my XR400 days
and reckon I would have had it for a lot longer if I didn’t have a busted ACL in the left knee. Every time I got stuck on a snotty hill standing on my crook leg trying to restart the bike :S . So I ended up selling it and getting a bike with a button. I’ve forgotten how to kick a bike these days.
Also both of my sons come through the XR ranks when they started riding – lots of good memories!Mickp

AnonymousHey Mick I’ve just seen that you have a 53 BSA Bantam, you should post some pics, they are great bikes! I like the old school stuff. Would love to have a few older bikes knocking around, trouble is they have grown popular again and can cost a bit of money for a decent one….

I used to ride BSA bantams around the bush when I was a kid and saw this one at a swap meet in Gosford and fell in love with her. Much to my wifes annoyance the bike came home with me. It is not in original livery (which were a bit drab). She has had parts chromed and painted etc and looks great. She was born the same year as me, so we can grow older together.
I’ll try and post some pics in Whats in your garage thred.Mickp

AnonymousTop job Mick, picking it up in a swap meet rings of ‘bargain’ to me
I’ll have to keep my eye out I wouldn’t say no to one for the right price.
I’ll watch out for the pics when you get round to it:)
September 10, 2009 at 1:42 am #151561g’day all
i know that bike in fact i was looking at it just the other day and if i had some spare cash i’d be defently considering it. the bloke who owns it won a ktm 450 and swapped it for the honda (sunny corner) It’s brand new and looks real nice. He put different rims on and a pipe aswell. anyone who lookin for one this is it. go the mighty 650.
September 10, 2009 at 2:58 am #151562top stuff Dusty
good to get the confirmation.
hope the owner finds someone that like us, now knows it’s genuine km’s/ history etc. to hand over the $$$ not a dodgy speedo swap/ tamper job.
and not discredit the seller’s integrity and honesty,
as i was sceptical about the bike’s history, until a few said they know of the guy and bike.
out of interest, he obviously had a bike to ride? as he hasn’t ridden the new bike.

AnonymousI don’t believe a bike made 6 years ago has only covered 86Km. If he was at the Watagan’s rally when he won the KTM was he not riding the XR650? Why eould anyone go to the effort of spending the extra coin on motard rims and a pipe for a bike they’ve hardly ever ridden?
Sorry, but I just can’t see it. I put more road K’s on my bike the day I got it than that 6 year old XR supposedly has……

I am not buying it who cares if it has or hasnt unless you are purchasing it. Its easy to tell if it has or hasnt, its so easy to tell you wouldnt make the claim unless it was true.
Why do people do anything anyway?TB
