August 25, 2009 at 8:46 am #150087Hey CJ, best look at all the articles you can find, http://www.roadrashmotorsports.com/KTM-BIG-BORE-KIT-450-520-p/roughhouse_big_bore_kit_520
talk with your KTM dealer, ask if they have done any, etc.
Big bore kits can cost big $$$.

August 25, 2009 at 8:52 am #150092Best option would be to trade the 450 on a 525/530, instant big bore.

August 26, 2009 at 6:54 am #150110I thought the 525 topend just went onto the 450 cases?
probably wrong tho’
And 525/530s are cheap as chip second hand, there was a 530 on another forum advertised for 6.5k, 08 model, seems you can’t give ’em away, whereas the 450s seem to hold a bit more value.

The motors are the same stroke and carby, head, bottomends and gearbox the same as well. Lotsa’s 03 450 shit itself so he just bought the 525 parts (barrel, piston and rings) rather than the 450 parts. His bike has done big K’s and the motor is still powering. Motors were basically the same through to 07 model. If you need details I’m sure Mal at Suttos will be able to help you.

AnonymousThe guy I work with just asked KTM about big boring his ’03’ 450 and they said the parts are a straight swap. I also know this is true of the newer >’08’ 450/530’s
I doubt it will be cheap though, as others have said the price of the 08 530’s seems to be very cheap, so you could get a good deal….
September 8, 2009 at 8:22 am #151074wouldn’t mind wacking on a 530 top end .the reason im doing this is because its a bit rattly .i just had new inlet valves and piston ring about six months ago . but ithink the big end might be a bit suspect . so my thoughts were flogg the shit out of it just like usual .when it pops if it even does .i will rebuild with new top end .yeeha.
September 8, 2009 at 8:33 am #150090if it’s the bigend, flogging it will cost you a new crank, conrod and possibly lead to needing cases too!
not just new piston, top end reco. etc.
have you had the cam/ timing chain tension checked?
September 8, 2009 at 8:37 am #151534all done when i had the valves done.
September 8, 2009 at 12:48 pm #150091if it’s rattley after only 6 months since rings and inlet valves.
sounds like you need to talk to a mechanic.
where the tolerances/ piston to cylinder clearance, gudgeon pin checked when the rings were done?
how many km’s/hrs is on it?
have you had it since new?
what kind of rattle is it making, higher/ tinny or lower/ knocking pitch, and when?= high rpm, cold?
bit hard to make a diagnosis without hearing it 1st hand.
best find a reputable KTM dealer and ask them what the problem is.

The engines changed on the ’08’ models and moved away from the RFS type that ou have and I’m not sure they’ll be a straight swap like a 525 would be
Just in case in blows up tomorrow and you go buy a 530 top end
