Apparently Honda could not prepare a bike in time, the same thing happened with the 450x for that shootout.

Gas Gas had no bikes in the country

Maybe Honda are missing shootouts on purpose?

I reckon the shootouts are pretty much worthless. KTM win alot because they have a massive budget for advertising and marketing. They do it with riders too, they just buy the best riders so they can be seen to win all the time. A good business strategy I suppose, they certainly sell a load of bikes.

The Huskies might be getting better but holy hell are they ugly. They need to sack the retard who designed them and get someone without severely imapired vision on the job and I think that would be a big help. Take a page out of Gas Gas’s book in that regard.

No matter how good the bike I wouldn’t buy it if looked like a giant POS!

I agree shootout are mostly bullshit and advertising revenue has a big impact on outcome, (no magazine is going to bite the hand thats feeds it). I do think there is a place for shootouts in showing the differences in strengths and weaknesses of each model when tested back to back but picking a winner is worthless. What I like in a bike can be totally different to the next person so we would choose very different bikes as the winner. No doubt they pick a winner because thats what their readers demand.

As for Husky styling beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like the minimalist styling of the TE250/310 as apposed to the newer styling of the 449/511. That being said I always have and always will hate that god ugly orange colour KTM continues to splash all over their bikes.

The 250/310 styling follows the old lines which i like. And although you can’t see it when your sitting on it  but the 449/511

You can see the advertising rates at the major mag online and KTM spent more than Husky on adds in that mag……..just saying the formula of expenditure vs review theory.

I would like to see another brand like a Sherco or TM win for a change. Or better an Odes wins the 2013 450 shootout.

It certainly is in the eye of the beholder. I think those low slung clear tanks on the new KTM look like a tired old ball sack hanging off the side of the bike. Imagine how they will look when they start to yellow.

I like the orange, especially on the 2013 KTM, the white/clear tanks look trick, when my tired old ballsack starts to turn yellow I will go to the doctor because something must be wrong

I have always liked the look of a clear tank over a black one. Don’t mind the look of Huskys either, maybe its just the white, because the KTM 350 6days bike that bloke was riding at Sunny Corner looked nice.

I go for the Wests Tigers too, black and orange.

I must be the opposite. I’d buy the bike that handled best out of the crate (no after purchase costs). What I’d look for is handling, reliability, after sales service, closeness of a good dealer. Couldn’t care less what it looks like. They all look the same.

Rode the husky 449 the other day. Only a short burst under limited conditions but was impressed. Excellent ergonomics. Took me a while to get used to the 4T power delivery and rev/gear combo but after that all was good (you know you’ve been riding a 2T long enough when a 4T feels wierd). The motor seemed noisy to me, but again, that might just be me not being used to 4T noise. I seem to remember my old wr 250 sounding like it would blow any minute. It was stock standard and it was one of the only bikes I have felt comfortable on standing up. The distance between pegs and bars must be a bit bigger. Glad to see a manufacturer realise that the average bloke is taller than 5 foot.

I’m a 250 man though. Do the 250 come with a kick starter? Are they EFI. I know it seems the new way but it’s just nice to know you have a kick starter if required. Maybe I’m just nervous because with KTM 2T the kick starter will be required.

Not looking at changing any time soon Rocket. You know what mates with new bikes are like. They’re not happy until you’ve ridden the new toy and told them it is almost as good as a 2T.

Yep the TE250 does come with kick start and efi albeit the 12 model kickstart is useless if battery totally dead(13 will be battery less efi, just battery to run electric start, and yes a kick start).
