Hi Guy’s,
I’m currently running a 140/80-18 MT21 on the back of my KTM 520EXC and was wanting to try the Dunlop D606 but it only goes to 130 wide. Is anybody running one of these tires on their 640 LC4 or similiar and how’s it fit.
Cheers,
Dean
October 16, 2011 at 6:42 pm #210484I ran a 120 D606 on my WR no problem & run 120 Bridgestones on the same rim. So a 130 will be fine.
They look narrow fitted due to the tread profile
October 16, 2011 at 6:57 pm #210487How many K’s did you get out of the MT21?? What was your opinion on it ??
thanks
October 16, 2011 at 7:12 pm #210485Deano the 606 will work fine mate, the 130 will look the same as the 140 MT21. I have run both the 140 MT21 and 130 606 on the Tenere. From experience with both tyres I can say the 606 will grip better at the start but wont last as long as the MT21. The 606 I just used on the Silverton loop is rooted after just 3200kms and there wouldnt have been 100kms bitumen total in that. The MT21 will wear better I reckon and although wont hook up as well, it will hook up for longer if that makes sense
Good luck, tyres are the bain of my existence

Hi Burkey,
I probably have got less than 2000km’s on it and might get another 500 before it is completely worn in the centre. They are cheap which is why i bought it and i do use my 520 more of an adventure bike than a trailer it everywhere bike. I have the front also which is hardly worn but i don’t find it overly great in the dirt.
sb_250y,
Does the WR have the same width rim or the narrower 2.15 like my original?
Cheers

Haan Cush Hub & 2.5 rim
October 16, 2011 at 9:00 pm #210500Hi Dean
My 690 runs a 2.5″ rear rim and I used a 120 Bridgestone ED78 on the rear for the Camerons ride. It worked pretty well and is probably a bit over half worn with conservative throttle use after 3000km, but still had a heavy load over rocky/gravel roads. Standard fitment is a 140 but it does not seem to make much difference, they all fit OK, 120/130/140 on the 2.5 rim.
I agree with TB about the 606 / MT21 wear & gripMick
October 16, 2011 at 9:09 pm #210501Thanks guy’s for the feedback. This gives me a few more options.
Has anybody ran the Mefo offroad or stone master from Adventure Moto?
Cheers

CheersIve got about 600k’s on both the MT21’s on the XRR, dont think Ill get 1200 k’s out of the rear but grips like shit to a blanket
October 16, 2011 at 11:20 pm #210507I wouldn’t use another dunlop tyre even on my wheel barrow. The last front Dunlop on my CRF ripped all the side knobs off in about 3 rides leaving it with only one knob in the middle in some spots. Complete crap. The rears are no better. Bridgestone seem to last OK but the old cheap special Metzler MC5 is the tyre of choice for me. Cheap, last as long as anything else and hook up OK. I just rode the Yellow Mountain race and two Pony Express’ on the MC5. Its pretty much stuffed now, but I rode for 10km to get back to the pits with it flat and banged a new tube in it and raced all day with a inch long split through the sidewall. I rate them.
October 17, 2011 at 12:08 am #210511Not all tyres are measured the same either. Some are measured across the width of the knobs, and some are measured across the width of the carcass.
October 17, 2011 at 7:50 pm #210486Hi Dood,
Here is the Dunlop link for the tyres & recommended rime sizes mate this will help with matching the state tyre size & your rim.
http://www.dunlopmotorcycle.com/tirecatalog_tire.asp?id=14Now I found a cheap Dunlop 707 110/100 in MCAS hard terrain
Sounds a wired size for a bike which comes with a 140/80 rear but this tyre is awesome grip & gives excellent control & is wearing well looks to last 3 times as long as Mitchellin rear which spins like crazy.
I will be using the Dunlop Geomax MX71 next.
The D707 110/100 is as wide as a 130 tyre but fits the smaller rear rim on my bike.Ask for Sam in City MCAS store & he will help you out mate!!
Regards, KFP

Thanks KFPanda,
Looking at that website the 130/90-18 is recommended for my bike. One thing i found interesting is for the same size rear rim if you have a KTM 450 it recommends a 120/90-18 but for the 525 it recommends a 130/90-18.
Cheers
