    g’day guys
my younger sister is looking to get into trailriding/enduros, she is very handy on a motorbike for the amount of riding she has done but needs to get her own bike

id love to get her on a crf but the KTM has caught her eye, i found one in her price range, and as you can guess its a 2005 250exc-f

now guys i got to ask, what should i look for ? what should i ask ? was there any dramas with this bike from the factory?

    cheers guys

2005 KTM 250 250EXC-F, What to look for ? Id say a Yamaha or a Gasgas 250

seriously tho unless she is a good mechanic and has plenty of time and money on her hands go with the Japanese brands first. (gasgas falls into that category as it runs te WR engine)

    just my 2 cents

No comment on the KTM 250F as I haven’t had anything to do with them. WR 250F is the pick I reckon forget a Gas Gas WR engine or not, the rest of the bike parts are overpriced and you will end up retro fitting jap parts it seems  You can get jap bike parts anywhere it’s not a thing against Gas Gas’s just a fact I believe.

Of the 250’s the WR seems to pass the time test meaning it requires the least engine maintenance over time against say a CRF. A CRF would suit a racer more but, more maintenance so starts the merry go around

Good luck get what you want anyway lifes to short

    yeah that looks alright B)

GasGas parts are cheap compared to KTM parts and yes older 250 Kato EXCF’s are fairly highly strung and do require regular topends. Cant go wrong with the WR and I reckon the white ones look great.

Nothing steers like a Gasgas – except maybe an XR250 ;)

I am sorry but it begs asking  . If a Gas Gas steers so well why did you put a CRF front end on your Gas Gas   :P (I dont care about facts either  )

Oh yeah nothing steers like a XR250 you are 100% correct IMO

A tube would be cheaper than $700, you forgot to add the Showa is a better front end ;) Still further off topic Ollie I will have a heap of XR 650 parts coming up soon. I am not getting rid of my XR just have doubles and triples of soooooo many parts gathered up over years if you are interested. There is everything from new and second hand plastics to triple trees to shocks, forks, wheels, sprockets, blinkers, radiators, hoses, stators, electrics, swing arms, linkages, discs, maybe motard wheels, brake callipers, master cylinders and heaps more

Thanks mate ;) could do with some new blinkers maybe Motard heels B)

Marzocchi suspension is a copy of 92 model showa same as what was on my old 360 Husky  my fork tubes had been worked over so factor in another $3-400 in the end just not worth it.

Hey Rookie sorry mate about going off subject – get ya sis to have a look at an Alloy frame WRF ;) cant go wrong !

The 250exc-f had a cam chain tensioner problem, that allows the chain to jump a tooth and lock everything up. The problem existed right through to the 2009 model. Just ask Moose, they had all sorts of trouble with their 09 model.

Like the other guys have said, go a WR.
