Anonymous****Date and venue released for 2009 A4DE ****THE W/END AFTER EASTER*
Organiser’s of the Hog’s Breath Café Australian Four Day Enduro (A4DE) today announced the date and venue for next year’s highly anticipated event.Phil Sargent, of Dirt Bike Promotions, and Lyndon Heffernan, from Detour Events, said next year’s event would be held at the NSW Central Western town of Orange from Thursday, April 16th to Sunday, April 19th.
The A4DE is one of the world’s biggest and most prestigious enduro motorcycle events, where some of the fastest and most accomplished off-road motorcycle riders on the planet battle against Australasia’s elite.
An Australian won the event Outright for the first time in several year’s at the 2008 event in April: Yamaha’s Chris Hollis beat former World Motocross Champion Joel Smets and a leading World Enduro Championship racer from Italy to take the number 1 placing.
Dirt Bike Promotion’s Phil Sargent said they were “very excited” about next year’s event and had only just finished talks with council officials, Motorcycling Australia “all those involved” in approving the date for an event of the A4DE’s size and nature.
“We are really excited to be able to hold the event in Orange, it’s where I grew up and where most of my family is still based and I can tell you there is some awesome riding to be had in the area,” Sargent said.
“We will again be providing a good mix of bush and grass track tests and trails and have some fantastic properties and forestry areas lined up.
“We are also organising dedicated people to man every special test to ensure they are in tip-top shape and as good as they possibly can be for all racers.
“This year’s A4DE at Warragul was a hit and we are working hard to make sure Orange is even better.”
Detour Event’s Lyndon Heffernan said they had secured Orange’s Warratah Sport’s Oval for Parc Ferme (the staging area for riders and crew).
“This is going to be the perfect spot for Parc Ferme. It’s really close to town, less than five minutes from Orange, and easily accessible from the main highway,” he said.
“One difference between Warragul and Orange will be accommodation. Orange is much bigger, with a population of 40,000 people, so there is a much better variety of places to stay, eat, shop and visit.”
More information on the 2009 Hog’s Breath Café Australian Four Day Enduro, including the official event website, will be released in the coming month’s.
Entries will again be capped at 350 riders. Entry forms and Supplementary Regulations will be available early next year.
****For some local info****
http://www.orange.nsw.gov.au/go/visi…rmation-centreSeptember 29, 2008 at 12:41 am #108660Moto,
My family live in Orange, I lived in Orange for for a fair period of my life, so with local knowledge I was planning on going to watch and do some riding in other areas up there, including the best single line pines forest riding I know of. I also linned up free camping at the olds property, yes its cold but really just suck it up!
The plan is the follow the event on our bikes and do our own riding as well.
If any old bulls ride I can help out with crewing etc as we have done it before

AnonymousSounds awesome. I’d be keen to go out with you boys at the least. The thought had crossed my mind of entering, I’m too shit though so it would probably be better seeing it the easier way.
Maybe I’ll do it in 2010….
Do you re-jet the BRP for the altitude?

If I was competing for an outright spot against David Knight, who by the way I would smoke because I am Honda mounted
, I would consider checking my jetting, but really I think it would be ok trail riding, no one I have ever taken up there has ever had a drama.
You would be welcome
But thats the plan, I will be looking for numbers when it gets closer but thats the plan.

AnonymousI don’t know how high up it is, but I thought it was at a reasonable elevation? What I do know is at just over 1800m above sea level the air denisty is 1.0 Kg/m3. The air density at sea level can be abritrarily taken as 1.2929 Kg/m3.
1.0/1.2929 = 0.7734 or 77.34%
Since we all run normally aspirated engines and do not compress the intake charge with a turbo or supercharger (the BRP doesn’t have a turbo does it?
)the weight of charged air is directly reduced with an increase in altitude. At 1800m the power of your bike is 77.34% of what it is at sea level. If the BRP makes 60 bhp in the Watagan’s, it would make 46 bhp at 1800m which is about as much a 4T KTM 250.
Worth changing for a trail ride….debateable. Worth changing for racing…ohhh yes. Even with a powerful weapon like a KTM under his jewels DK would struggle with 25% less power….
It would be great to have an OBT ‘team’ cruise round and watch the A4DE. I’m keen if you are

AnonymousAfter a little research Orange is at 863m above sea level. Less than I had expected. For information this will still rob you of around 13% less power.
Maybe the thinner air slows your brain down by 13% too, so you don’t notice the power loss….ha ha ha
September 29, 2008 at 2:01 am #108676Hey Moto are you some kind of Julius Sumner Miller scientist type???

Moto,
If you are using all the power of your 450 and 13% will slow you down or I think even notice it I will supply, and pay in full your 4 day ride! Because based upon that I think you would be top 5.
Years ago at Louee I had the chance to ride around a 15min loop on 4 different bikes, quickest time of the day for me was on a WR250R, Slowest was a WR450R (it felt the quickest) I felt I could use all the 250, but not half of the 450. Now I ride a 650 you say, yes it has more power than 450’s even with lightened flywheel, HRC race cams, major head work etc its slower in its delivery than a 450 making it easier to ride. Yet it can be hit hard ask Mick up the top its a cranky thing. Even on my best day I wouldnt go near using all that bike as would most punters, this is why KTM is making a 400, Ballards sleeved down a 450 to 400 last year I read, its why Ben Grabham won Finke with a 450 on a horse power track (Finke) using a stock internal engine, we saw his bike built from crate to race, T4 exhaust, jetting, Vortex, stock stock stock, including valves!
I will give you one thing mate, your a clever dick with those formulas, I had to go down to our tech dept just to check you hadnt called me a name in all those formulas!
Cheers Moto, I look forward to having a rum with you, hey whats with you and the squirrel?
September 29, 2008 at 2:57 am #108684Hey Moto,Watch him and his Rums, It is his game plan, he tries to jam as many as he can into you the night before a ride, so you are crook the next day and off your guard so he can roost you. Luckily I can handle a drink or two and still front up the next day.

AnonymousYou are, of course, perfectly correct, I don’t use the all of the power of the 450 and 13% probably wouldn’t make a difference. But, a loss of almost 25% would be very noticable, and would effect my riding. I do ring it’s neck in 2nd, 3rd and 4th using all the power it has available on the more open sections of track. You might notice the depreciation in torque more than the power though.
For those who have the experience, changing the jetting of the carbie is pretty easy. For a ride covering 4 days, to have my bike running as it would when I was at home I would do it if there was going to be a noticable difference. The difference is I’m a complete tool and could just about point the engine out to you, let alone change the jets for altitude.
A retort for a lot of people is that I (or anyone else) could ride quicker on 250 (or whatever), but that isn’t the point. No matter how the BRP goes you could ride a whole lot quicker through the ST on a 250 or 125, but you don’t ride one do you? I like my 450, I like it’s power, and I like having it there. Most people ride a 250 quicker through the bush becasue they are lighter, more flickable and generally require less effort to ride meaning you can go harder for longer.
The fact it has less power doesn’t make you go faster.
I’m not a rum person I’m sorry to say, but a beer or the like would certainly be good. What IS with me and the squirrel? Have I missed something? What’s with you and the squirel?
September 29, 2008 at 3:12 am #108691Ha ha I was enjoying the fact even though the squirrel was biting at me, he got into you was all

AnonymousIt’s a clear cut case of jealousy. I think he’s quite funny. I think he actually does ride bikes too, he seems to know a bit about them. I wonder if he goes alright….
September 29, 2008 at 3:37 am #108696Ha ha he can leave me be thats fine by me
