AnonymousWhat do you boys reckon?
I’m toying with the idea of getting one. They look so good and I really like the idea of a fuel injected bike (no, I don’t want a Husky). I also like the ideas behind them angling the engine forward too. Plus I like to be a bit of pioneer here and there
My problem is I want to race next year and I’m concerned about parts being available, lack of aftermarket parts and good, reliable service.
Also, the fact that I’d lose a shit load on the Orange Monster I’ve owned for 3 months wouldn’t help. It has sone 3,400K’s now though and coming to the point where I’m going to need to think about spending soem pennies to keep her in tip top condition. Even if I do that in another 8 months she could have another 3,000K’s or so and will be worth even less.
I don’t want 09 KTM beacuse there still carbie’d. And before Mick or TB even suggest it, I ‘m not going to buy an XR:P
September 24, 2008 at 1:31 am #108554Have they got a kick starter?? If so is it on the “right” side?

NO
September 24, 2008 at 3:18 am #108556Mate I got no problems with the things other than gearbox(4th,5th)die, or the clutch, I would also let them sort their computers properly as I have heard of gremlins there too, maybe the 2010 would be the pick, as far as the orange goes I dont need to tell you by going where you are thinking of going is 2 steps forwards(fuel injection) and 5 steps backwards(race proven reliable – gone, parts anywhere – gone, knowledge is abundantly available – gone), you need to think this out with a rum or 5….Just my 2 cents worth is a big NO…Good luck

AnonymousMick – The chain and spockets are on the right side now, if there is a kickstarter I assume that will be too.
TB – I’m sick and tired of your big, long winded replies to my posts. Can’t you just keep it simple and say what you mean?

AnonymousKTMRat – I don’t think the issues of yesteryear will be an issue as the 09 is an all new bike. That said, it will obvioulsy have issues of it’s own. There are bound to be teething problems.
When you add up the pro’s and con’s it all points to keeping my current bike. I’m just fining it hard to do that. If I do keep it though, I’m going buy a heap of spares parts for it so I can be tooled up when I go racing
I just don’t want a high mileage bike
Oh, and by the way you only listed 3 steps back (not 5). So, if I’m 2 steps forward and 3 steps back then I’m only really 1 step back, right??

AnonymousI’m too honest Ollie
You’ve all swayed me out of it. I’ll just stick with the KTM. I can’t even ride that let alone the latest in dirt bike technology

AnonymousKickstarter does look like it’s gone missing. My pics always get resized much smaller than I want them, I don’t know why this happens either. Either way you can see from the engine pics in the link that there is no kickstart.
September 24, 2008 at 4:26 am #108569like I said no
September 24, 2008 at 7:14 am #108570I’d say yes! I’ve always liked them, but look at me! I have a Vor!
Would there be no kickstarter because it’s EFI? That is, don’t you need the fuel pump running before it will start? If you’re kicking it aren’t you doing so because the battery’s dead?
I dunno, I won’t own an EFI bike any time soon.
September 24, 2008 at 9:16 am #108574The purpose of the new design is to make the bike handle like a 2-stroke. Than why not buy a 2-stroke?:silly: I would get an EXC300 instead and give some time to the new model. (First year is always like an experiment, like a beta-test).
I’m also not sure if the EFI is better than a carb. Heavier, hard to work on. The RMZ450 is told to be more fuel thirsty since introducing the EFI…
Anyways its just my 2 cents if you do get the bike you will be happy with it thats for sureSeptember 24, 2008 at 9:51 am #108577I reckon the berg looks shithot, different but shithot, like the New BMW different, fuel injection is the way of the future it wont be long before all manufacturers have it and I believe the injection does not even have to have a battery,I to would like to have a kickstarter backup, the WR would sometimes not start on the button but would kick over easily.nice to know that its there thats for sure.Dealer support maybe an issue,Sutto’s are great,Cessnock is also very Good have not dealt with any of the others but because you are on the Central Coast you would be using either of these two dealers mostly anyway.Being the first of a new model design can be a risk worth considering and also cost of spares. In my honest opinion I would say no to the 09 model and see what is around the corner 2010,you are always going to lose money on a new bike. I would like to see how the new Huskies go in the real world
cheers Ollie
