And its less than 6 months to go. After a bit of persuading ……. well not really , we have been looking for any excuse to go back to Africa ….. we have provisionally booked a couple of dates in November & December this year, to take another group for that awesome trail ride adventure with Alfie Cox.
The trip will be going 14 to 22 Nov, or for those that can’t make those dates, we also have a trip on 5 to 13 Dec. The format will be the same as last time we went, with 6 days of riding over a 9 day period. The riding will be in two different regions of Southern Africa – Transkei (Xhosa tribal region) and KZN (Zulu tribal region). Alfie will supply bikes – all KTM 4strokes.
The inclusions will be 8 nights accommodation (Beach front resort for the 1st 4 nights and then hinterland cottage style holiday accomodation for the last 4 nights), brekky, lunch and dinner every day (mostly restaurant meals at night). All pick ups and transfers to / from airports. Transfers between the 2 riding locations .An African wildlife game park safari. Bike hire and all fuel costs. All trails escorted by Alfie Cox. The total cost for the above will be around $3,000 (expect small fluctuations in cost if exchange rates change before trip) .
And then of course you will have your airfare – I have just booked ours at a price of $1900 each return (Qantas). But there are other discounts trips available from around $1550.
The story of our previous trip was published in Dirt Action magazine. But if you didn’t get to read it, here is the link to the OBT blog version – http://www.obtrailriders.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=56&func=view&catid=2&id=77289 – this will give you an idea of the magnificent country that you will be riding in. The ride caters for all levels of rider.
If you are interested in joining us then let me know, (probably easiest to PM me, or just call on 0415 894 865 to discuss) or if you think anyone else you know may be interested, can you please pass this information on …… I can only take 6 riders! so we will have to do this on “first come, first served”. We need to make a $1000 per rider deposit on booking and then the balance to be paid 3 months prior to departure.
If you would like to book the wife in to a wildlife game lodge while we are out riding ….. that can be arranged (bribery will get you everywhere !!)
July 22, 2010 at 10:28 am #181488An update on the 2010 Alfie Cox Trail Ride Adventure trips ……..
Both November & December dates are now fully booked. So we can’t take any more bookings for those dates but anyone interested in going at a different time then just drop us a PM or call (0415 894 865), and we will try and fit another ride in.
We have also had some enquiries about planning a trip in 2011, so if you are perhaps interested then just register your interest with us and we will keep you informed as things develop.
The recent positive coverage that South Africa has had during the World Cup Soccer, has resulted in a large increase in enquiries for the Alfie Cox Ride, from all over the world. As a result, we need to plan and book a ride date, as far ahead as possible.

November 6, 2010 at 8:48 am #181489Well, this is going to be awesome, combined with the Roof of Africa. Looking foward to it!!!
We leave on Wednesday :woohoo:November 6, 2010 at 10:42 am #190247Good luck with the “Roof” mate. I’m sure you’ll finish and not last either.
Enjoy the trail ride with Alfie. The last ride report from KTM05 was awesome.
Are you riding 4T or 2T for the trail ride?
November 30, 2010 at 10:58 am #190250Congragualtions to KTM_Rules for attempting ‘The Roof of Africa’ extreme endruo event.
Mr Rules was 79th outright on day one and 85th on day two :woohoo: and doesn’t look like he finished day three. But only 109 out of about 250 riders did finish.
Well done Chris. Will you be going back next year?
How was the ride with Alfie Cox?

For those that don’t get how hard these events are here’s a couple of clips from this year.
December 23, 2010 at 3:09 pm #181490Hi Mal5.1
KTM_Rules rode a Husaberg 300 for the Alfie Cox Ride as well as the Roof of Africa event. We managed to order an early delivery of his ACR hire bike so that he could get used to it for the RoA event.
He won the RtH section on day one of the RoA – a great ride. We had 4 Aussies competing there this year and all had a good ride. The event definitely lives up to its name as an EXTREME enduro. The rest of us were spectators and support, and had a great experience

December 26, 2010 at 4:24 am #181491For all of you that are bored out of your brain like me. Click on these vids and check out the other ones that come up at the bottom of the Utube screen. Some of the conditions these guys ride in is hideous. They have got some staying power to keep riding through it! Got to respect that talent. Remember cameras do little to show how bad hills can look and these hills look gnarly in the shots! How do these bikes not boil through the clutch use and lack of forward motion at times?
December 26, 2010 at 4:37 am #193453Yeah it’s rediculously hard riding. I have most of the extreme enduro DVDs and watch them all the time.
Search Red Bull Romaniacs, Hells Gate, The Tough One and of course Erzberg. All these and ‘The Roof of Africa’ are the events that make up the World Extreme Enduro Championship next year.
Web site not active yet but here’s the link.
If you’re still bored after all that stuff Arron, search motorbike hill climbs and watch them nutters. :woohoo:
December 26, 2010 at 5:12 am #193457Have checked put some Erzeberg ones before but i will look at the others. Thanks. Have searched the hill climb ones a bit before don’t go much on the 4 cylinder ones on the hills that look like motocross up hills. I prefer watching standard bikes with riders with heaps of skill or none at all. Wont say any more as I will get in trouble for getting off the topic!
