Well Round One is done and dusted, actually dusted is a poor choice of words as the mud was 2 feet deep in places!!! There was a good contingent of Old Bulls there helping out too!!!
First off Saturday morning, I led the Juniors out on their sighting lap and I will have to say, it would have been some of the hardest kms I have ever done on a dirt bike. It was like riding in porridge, with logs and rocks mixed in it!! I led 15 kids out with two sweeps following, when we got back I only had three of the fifteen left!! Once the kids race got underway, in no time there were bogged and broken bikes strewn from one end of the track to the other!! There were kids crying and bikes boiling there heads off, absolute chaos!!!!! Any kid that finished the race deserved a medal!!
Which brings me to the point where I have to mention that Moose’s young fella George came third outright in the Junior race riding Moose’s new KTM250EXC. Although he wasn’t all that happy with the way the Kato went and I expect to see him line up for the sprints today on his YZ125.The track had dried considerably by the time the seniors came out to play, they were awesome to watch, below is a press release from Saturdays racing. Connor took some pics that I will upload later as we are about to head back out and do it all again,we have had more rain overnight so I imagine the track will be back in porridge mode.
Reigning Yamaha Australian Off-Road Champion, Toby Price, kicked off his 2010 campaign with a bang today at Wauchope (NSW), taking the round one Outright and Yamaha Championship E2 Class wins.
The 22-year-old from Singleton (of the Motorex KTM Team) was first across the line in today’s 2.5-hour, “mud-fest” of a cross-country race.
Price’s teammate, Ben Grabham, nearly stole the win however, charging passed the checkered flag in second spot and mere seconds off Price’s rear fender.
Ballard’s Wellard Yamaha rider and AORC number two plate holder, Stefan Merriman, finished third Outright and second in Champ E2.
Grabham took the Pirelli Championship E3 Class win. Teammate, Jarrod Bewley, was first in GP Industries Championship E1.
“It was a pretty tough event today, you would fall into a rut and have to follow it right through,” Price said.
“It was a good event, though, the organisers did a great job and getting the first win was great – hopefully one of many.
“I’ll go home tonight and recover and come back and do it all again tomorrow.”
Round two of the Yamaha AORC is being held tomorrow in Sprint Format.
Today’s fastest Expert rider was Nathan Castle, who took the number one placing in Expert Outright and Endura Expert E2/E3.
Michael Hand was the winner in Polisport Expert E1.
In Motul Championship Women’s, Lana Stiller was the victor.
RK Chains Championship Veteran’s was taken out by Anthony Smidt, while Championship Master’s was won by Geoff Ballard.
Junior Outright was taken out by Lachlan Terry.
And in the clubman categories, Thomas Jenner won Clubman E1, Luke Parkes won Clubman E2/E3 and Clubman Veteran’s was won by Gary Tomlinson.

These two dudes wanted to get their picture taken with Connor, so he obliged.
Sweep riders briefing. Busy227 lays down the law.
The seniors prepare for the start
They are off and racing. Note the Ballard boy, on the far left of the shot. He saved it, that is why he is a sponsored rider I suppose!!
Some of the track wasn’t to bad.
But most of it was a quagmire.
Hitting it pinned seemed to work
There were some huge rutts that formed!!
March 15, 2010 at 10:06 am #173255What a fantastic effort by the young guys over the weekend. I did one lap as a sweep rider and and it bustered me. You expect the guns to be able to handle it but some of those young kids put me to shame
I think young George backed up for a second in Sunday’s sprints

March 15, 2010 at 9:01 pm #173388For those that went to Dungog, I spoke to Trent Leigh(owner of the farm we stayed at) after the race and he reckons it was the toughest race he’s ever competed in. He finished 4th in his class. Not bad.
March 15, 2010 at 9:51 pm #173389I too reckon it was the toughest ride I have ever had on a dirt bike, I was actually amazed that I got around the circuit on the Fiddy without dropping it, although I did crash into a tree that stopped me from dropping the big girl.
March 16, 2010 at 2:45 am #173390I know most of you are from south of the border….and are probably not interested …but does anyone know what happened to Kirk Hutton on the Sun race….as his time seems to have disappeared off the time sheets for Sun? :S

AS it turns out the scoring system on the AORC website seems to have chucked a wobbly and no longer shows the scores. :S
March 17, 2010 at 2:26 am #173416Kirk Hutton didn’t compete in Sundays program as he rushed back to Brisbane to be with his wife Leigh who went into labour in the early hours of Sunday morning. They welcomed a baby boy into the world at 2.30pm Sunday afternoon.
