I thought I recalled seeing something like that somewhere…the only thing wrong with that AB, is if your exhaust it out the back of the head the carb would have to sit out the front, copping all the crud off the front wheel.
if you bend the pipe you can still limp home. damage the carb and it could be a long push home:(
BUT i agree with you on the theory to putting it out the back.
July 29, 2009 at 1:06 am #145673That would have to be one of the best looking off-road bikes ever built, it’s almost sex on wheels……..

July 29, 2009 at 1:17 am #145674Carb?! What carb??? they’re EFI mate that’s the beauty of it and also the only reason why I asked the question on this bike and not all bikes
Get what you’re saying though
July 29, 2009 at 2:21 am #145676Austblue it’s been done heaps of times, and it does work to a degree, but what gains you make in efficiency you also lose in exhaust “tuneability” as you are restricted to a short header section straight into the slincer section, then you’ve got wethering and impact damage as a larger risk on your intake side.
At this point the trade-offs are not worth it.Bc

oh well throttle body then
😆 😆
, still have the air cleaner/intake tube to damage.Mr Blue an i correct in saying that a short header gives more hp/torque in the low rpm range and a long one in the high rpm range?
i’m only assuming that bikes are the same as cars in the respects to exhaust make up affecting the power characteristics ?
July 29, 2009 at 3:11 am #145685Austblue, That sorta sums the problem up in a nutshell.

July 29, 2009 at 10:11 am #145693Dont know if I have posted this link correctly, but received Husaberg news letter a month ago and it has a link to a you tube video of the new 2010 bikes, they go like stink!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A mate rode a 09 450 on a ride in Coffs two months ago, the swith on the bars to change the maps makes the bike rideable in any conditions.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rAKU6ecHBI

YAMAHA is taking off road motorcycles to a new level. These spy pics reveal Yamaha is planning to release an all new YZ450F for 2010.The big thing is the engine will be turned around, with the exhaust pipe exiting straight back from the reverse cylinder head and the fuel injection facing forward for better access to fresh air.
There looks to be a heap of other changes, including a new rear subframe and front chassis design.
It isn’t the first time Yamaha has tried this technology, with the TZ GP bikes utilising this basic design many years ago. Other niche off-road manufacturers have dabbled with it also but Yamaha will be the first to try it on such a large scale.
The jury is out on whether there’s other design benefits or if it’s mainly for marketing, but Yamaha is holding the Australian launch just after we go to press with the August issue so we’ll see if all the hype is real.

and some others from in my memory that have a carby hanging off the front as well, then there’s the rotary valve induct bikes that it is irrelelvant as to where the exhaust exits in relationship to the induction.

Quote:Cannondale did this back reverse engine design back in 2000. They also had fuel injection and a casette style gearbox. The airfilter was up behind the headlight and it sucked air through the frame.

AnonymousKTM Newcastle just advised that the new 450/570 will be available from November this year whilst the 390 maybe arlier. Prices have also increased 4% making the big 570 around $15,500 OTR.
Lastly, and in my opinion the best bit of news is that the black beast pictured at the top of the page in NON STANDARD and is in fact a kit you can buy from Husaberg. The 210 models will look exactly the same as the 2009 modles with the exception of the triple clamps which will be anodised black (and also have an increased the rake to 22 from last years 19).
Only other change I remember is a fuel warning light…….
