    Hey Boony

They are 50% lighter than your Banana and 30% more expensive so by the gram you still have the best value in town:laugh:

How do you figure that. By your calculations ya paying 30% more for 50% less. :P

They are a nice looking bit of machinery.

i dont know about the weight boony but a good friend of mine is picking one of these up on wednesday, the exc450 set him back $13900 rideaway.

My good man Mr Moto, the 100grams off each wheel is probably the most important weight loss a bike can get, cause it’s unsprung weight, the worst weight of all, gyros, undampened weight hydraulic weight all that stuff. The only thing I can hope for is they didn’t put the rims off the YZ on the EXC, they’re nowhere as durable as the older rims on my 300 were.

Do the maths Scotty. Boonys current ride is much better value by the gram than a new KTM.

They do look nice but not a Yamaha, I have been told that the wr450 2010 is FI but not the 250’s and that they won’t be out until dec/jan.

Bruce, I’m well aware of that and for a man of your particular disposition the weight saving may be a godsend and save you the 2/10th’s you need through the single track on your way to the pub for lunch every Sunday, however, for the rest of us mere plebs I would lay $50 down if the majority of the people could *honestly* say they noticed a difference.

I think TB is right that KTM seem to have slowed their R&D for the enduro scene down a bit. Since the ’08’ models they haven’t made any big changes, then again maybe they wanted to sit it out for a year or two after almost redesigning the bike for 2008. All told, they don’t seem to be behind any of the other bikes, it’s just that since they have been at the forefront of bike mods (with Husaberg) over the last couple of years I was hoping they might do something good this year too.

That said, other than Husaberg and maybe Husqvarna what changes have Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha or any other major brands made? The WR has been the same for a number of years now and is overdue for some updates. I know ADB is ADB but they somehow managed to make this years WR bike of the year when it was almost completely unchanged from the year before when KTM took the title out. I guess that’s more about broen envelopes thatn actual bike testing.

KTM are rumoured to be switching to FI for 2011 as well as linkages for the MX bikes….we shall see.

Boony – The 450 is 113.9Kg without fuel according to the technical data on the KTM website :-)

You can have a go on my bike at Louee if you want :) I would try and blag a go on Menace’s 300 as well as they are a great bike, a true all rounder :)

KTM had FI back in 05.;)

but took em another 3 yrs to put it on the single cylinder:(

once the 300’s go FI i might look at buying on again, until then they can keep their 2T!

Kwaka had FI on the 82-84 900 but went back to carbs, they did FI on the OS klx 250’s a few yrs back, but it has been said that the US dealers didn’t think the buyer would hand over the extra $2-300 for FI.

i’m not sure if the AUS dealers reasoned the same?

with the WR going FI before the YZ could that be due to volume of sales here in Aus?= need to have a full Reg. bike to ride on public land/forests etc.

and being the YZ is more aimed at MX, and carb based is more easily tuned to suit rider, conditions etc.??

That’s not really true, once you’ve got your testing done and your fuel maps sorted all you have to do is connect a laptop to a plug on the bike and change the map to any one of an infinite number of settings suited for each an every circuit if you wanted to. The whole process would take no more than a couple of minutes…..much quicker than messing around with jets etc. :)
