AnonymousThe software will soon be available to the masses when FI becomes mainstream and there will be other programs that allow you access too. Evryone’s got a laptop these days, if you don’t….tough luck
Admit it, once sorted the potential for changing settings on the fly is very easy, not that it’s required for all bar the best riders, although I suspect alot will like to play……I would

You are a peanut! The benefits of EFI are more than stopping to hook up a laptop and change your state of tune

You can have a go on my bike at Louee if you wantI would try and blag a go on Menace’s 300 as well as they are a great bike, a true all rounder
August 25, 2009 at 2:13 am #149998I have no position on EFI on 4Ts, except it should have been done years ago.
I am waiting with baited breath for FI on 2Ts, and a linkage on the SX’s eh? this will be good.

BTW Moto how did you know the Woodenbong Pub is halfway along the trails up here?, not that i would personally ever be found in there on a sunday.

You are the one, as usual, who is bending it all out of shape. I’ll pre-empt your posts and say it’s the future so get over it

I think your DRZ is more like 140Kg’s than 120Kg’s. Maybe you have a special one

AnonymousI just had a look and according to Suzuki a DRZ400E wieghs in at a poultry 138Kg
See here for further info.
So that’s only 24Kg difference or an extra 21% of the Kato’s mass again. Make the $5K seem any better?
August 25, 2009 at 3:34 am #150016In dirt bikes it is generally recognised as less is more.
More magnesium
More titanium
More plastics
More $$$ for the priviledge. Now while the weight may show a ‘mere” 20 kg weight disadvantage, I’ll warrant after pushing it for an hour in S/T it’ll feel like 100Kg difference.
You wouldn’t use a shire horse to do a cutting horses job.
Nor a thoroughbred to scale the himalayas.

August 25, 2009 at 3:38 am #149812No way Moto, is that 138kg for real?!?!
my 02 640 is 136 dry weight!
so i’d guestamate 150kg with full tank and oil.

AnonymousI’ve ridden a DRZ backwards around the Maculata track and it wasn’t fun. Especially when the battery died!
The difference between a 450 and 250 can be night and day in single trail and that may be as little as 10 Kg’s difference.
XY – It’s real baby
In fairness I wouldn’t say that when you’re fresh it feels THAT heavy but as Blue says, after a some hard single track you’d be ready to throw it in the bush and set it on fire
August 25, 2009 at 3:47 am #150023WOW that DR is heavy, but they sort of feel it.
My XR has a claimed factory weight of 125.6kgs USA spec
Mine at work on the digital freight scales weighed 122.7kgs no fuel but all other liquidsI can say mine feels lighter when riding it, Gilli said the same when he rode it in the singles on the western side of the watos, but it feels all the 133 odd kgs (with fuel) when you are pushing its arse out of bogs for sure
Another thing I can do better wheelies when I have the medium 17 litre fuel tank on for some reason and I dont notice the weight difference when that tank is empty or full, its just the sloshing of fuel sometimes when half full and hard braking on stutter style bumps

August 25, 2009 at 9:10 am #150024I think you’ll find 138kg is the wet weight ready to ride with 10L of fuel. Yes still heavy but I still remember on the Hill End ride after 2 days off riding when we hit some technical tracks it was the guys on the light weight 250 S/T weapons who had a cry and the heavy DRZ/XR riders lapped it up. Go figure. maybe you guys just arn’t man enough and need to pump the f#*k up.
