Fellow Tenere owners,
The 2012 Tenere Tragics ride registrations are open. Only 75 will get to go (now 1 less, my registration has just been faxed off to Trailzone mag’s offices).
The 2012 TÉNÉRÉ TRAGICS Mountain to Mountain Run will start from Mount Panorama at Bathurst, NSW, on Monday March 5, 2012 and will follow a course with overnight stops in Oberon, Tumut and Batemans Bay before finishing in the Snowy Mountains at Jindabyne (two nights) on Friday March 9.
They describe the route as follows:
“The route: It’s unreal, with a feast of back roads, dirt roads and fire-trails that will keep a constant smile on your dial for five days straight (unless you’re running the wrong tyres and can’t get up some of the hills). We will cover around 1,850km in the five days, so the daily mileages won’t be as high as the Flinders run, but you can expect more elevation
changes this time around and tighter trail sections (but not as rocky as the infamous Arkaroola back-track!).”They have one Golden rule #1: No Ténéré, no start!
Hope to see some of you there!
Cheers, TT

February 19, 2012 at 1:30 pm #210505Well folks, on Satuday I fitted a Dunlop 606 front and Mitas E-09 Dakar rear tyre in preparation for this year’s Tenere Tragics ride. Got all geared up on Sunday morning and about 45 mins into the ride between Wisemans Ferry and St Albans a kangaroo jumped out of the bushes into the bike. I was doing about 50 km/h on a hard packed gravel road and went down like a sack of spuds. Needless to say as I am typing this up from my hospital bed with a busted right knee, I am not going anywhere for the next 8 weeks or so.
To the rest of the Tenere Tragics group, enjoy the trip and ride safe.
Cheers, TT

February 19, 2012 at 7:01 pm #210506Hi TB,
I was riding with another mate of mine. It was supposed to be a gentle “get used to the new tyres ride”. For the 75km travelled on the new tyres they seemed OK on tar. The ride on the short gravel section must have been 5km tops when the roo jumped into my front end. I did not see him at all, it was just one big jump out of the scrub and down I went. One dead roo and one busted knee
The bike will need a new SW Motech crash bar and rear brake lever (does anybody make one that folds?) Other than that the Ten did not have a scratch.
It was just one of those rare events. It is a good thing I had all the gear on as it could have been worse.
Ride safe guys.
Cheers, TT
February 19, 2012 at 9:22 pm #216573That’s a real bugger TT , bloody roos are the biggest worry when adventure riding but you can’t do anything about the ones you can’t see
Hope the knee comes good ASAP and your back on the bike soon !

Dear Ténéré Tragics,
After much consideration, it is with great regret that we have decided to POSTPONE the 2012 Ténéré Tragics Mountain to Mountain Run.
Unfortunately, the extreme weather conditions currently impacting southern NSW, which is due to host the majority of our course, and the current flood warnings and evacuation alerts in these areas have beaten us. It would be unlikely that we would be able to ride much, if any, dirt roads and even some tar roads will be impassable.
Heading the advice of authorities, the safety of all participants and crew on the ride must be foremost in our planning.
Of course, we also want to be able to enjoy a ride befitting our mighty Ténéré and Super Ténéré machines. So rather than staging a 5 day road ride, we have decided to postpone for 6 months to give everyone time to re-arrange time off work and other commitments.
Those booked in at Goldfields, Bathurst have NOT been charged their accommodation and we have been assured your credit card won’t be charged.
We have cancelled the Big Trout at Oberon. Any who may have already paid will need to contact the motel direct to arrange a credit.
Riverglades Caravan Park at Tumut have cancelled all bookings.
The Bridge Motel in Bateman’s Bay has also cancelled all bookings for Ténéré Tragics.
The Station Resort will transfer your bookings to the new date.
If you have made bookings elsewhere, please make sure to cancel them.
So, here is the new date for the 2012 Ténéré Tragics Mountain to Mountain Run:
Start: Goldfields, Bathurst Sunday October 14.
End: The Station Resort, Jindabyne Friday October 19.At this stage the days in between will be the same daily schedule as March.
We are really disappointed about having to postpone but we feel this is the best decision to make.
We hope to see you all in October and we’ll be in touch soon with more details.
Thank you for your understanding.
With thanks and best regards,
Clubby & Tania
