September 14, 2011 at 5:18 pm #208819September 14, 2011 at 5:42 pm #208822think you will find that australia and newzealand are the main market place for these bikes not california think they buy the yz s ?also 7.2 litre tank and 5 speed box reckon 6 speed with a 11 litre tank would be better

But I saw a lot of WRs and yes YZs.
If you honestly think the main market for WRs is New Zealand and Austraila well I dont know what to say maybe the below will help
Some quick roughish facts I just got from a solid industry source we shall say
The US sell around 1.5 million dirt bikes a year remember they have a population of over 250 million thats less then 3/4 of a percent
KTM Australia sell between 8 to 10 thousand per year total dirt and black top
Trust me Yamaha take far more interest in WR sales in the US then here or NZ. That is clear by the release of the NEW WR there and not here !!!
I will see what I can dig up if I get time as I am now interested in the numbers myself

September 14, 2011 at 6:56 pm #208832Just to put things into perspective, California alone makes up for 47% of Suzuki’s totals sales and Australia just manages to come in at 4%. So I would be inclined to think Yamaha would be experiencing a similar sale rate.
September 14, 2011 at 8:20 pm #208836I dunno if it is right but on Thumka talk the yanks used to be jealous of us bhaving roadgoing WR450s here and in NZ….. now i got the impression they weren’t as well recieved over there by the MX focused masses so the dealers didn’t have any floorstock, or Y USA didn’t send them to certain states

if you were anywhere in europe, or the rest of the world for that matter, you might have been just as hard pressed to find a Jap dealer.

and remember…..
how many of us on here ride MX??????

Yeah they can’t / won’t get with the metric system  and yes Europe your right off course. But the only enduro bikes I saw in the part of the states I was at were WRs no CRFs, no DR’s nothing  Every other bike basically was a Harley.
As for who cares what the sepo’s think, well actually Japan does because the US emission laws pretty well killed the Japanese two stroke
which I guess shows how many they sell there. Sux as it ruined it for the rest of the world

September 14, 2011 at 10:47 pm #2088632012 WR450F – with help from an iconic Aussie
Australia and NZ form the major market for WRF models. Which is incredible when you compare the local population with Europe and US. But thanks to our love of riding in the bush combined riding access and local laws, down under is where most WRF models will be sold. This is great news because it means Aussies get a say in development. And who better to have that say than enduro legend and WRF racer Geoff Ballard? just copyed this of the yamaha australia web site think they may no where they sell there bikes ? but who cares sounds like aido is going to get one and tell us if its any good
