Day 1
The Sydney boys , Duncan , Craig and Gili arrived towing Macs trailer at about 11am and once every thing was unloaded, we headed bush straight away.
Friday only had 5 starters, the three Sydney boys, Moose and myself.
The plan was to do a short 60 km loop of some new single trail that we had found , so I had it right in my head for the big ride on Saturday.
As it turns out I didn’t quite have it right in my head and subsequently took a wrong turn and by accident found another awesome section of single line that linked in with the intended loop for the Saturday. So that was a bonus!!!
The idea of Fridays ride was also to give the boys a heads up on what to expect on Saturday and I don’t think they were disappointed because the tracks are in great condition at the moment, not to wet and not to dusty.
Unfortunately I forgot to take the camera so there are no pics. Some of the trails we did were the, Chris’ Quarry trail (Chris had a big off in the quarry once), The Bondage trail ( There are thousands of small bushes that whip you as you ride up it), The off camber Jurrasic park trail, Mooses Hill (yep Moose came off there 2 weeks ago), Little Jurrasic Park , Prick hill, the fence trail, and to finish off, Ruttzilla trail.
Although the highlight of the day would have to be the fact that Duncan’s TM broke it’s 50km hoodoo and managed to rack up 64 trouble free km’s!!!!!!!!!We got back to the shed at about 3.30 and straight into the beers and laughs, it wasn’t much later than that, when fellas started rocking up and before long we had a fair group of guys in my shed having a good old time.
While everyone was partying I was busy, trying to talk sense on the phone as it was ringing its head off, at one stage I had a phone in each hand organising tucker for the next day and fielding enquiries from blokes coming for the Saturday ride.
It was at this stage I realised I had created a monster and 16 guys were keen for the ride, I was starting to feel the pressure as I knew some of the guys coming were far better riders than myself and I was to lead them.
Friday finished off with another excellent dinner at the Wauchope RSL then back to the shed for one more beer before the boys headed to Ant’s place in Port.
Here is the only pic from Fridays festivities
Stay tuned for Day 2 report

Saturday morning at my place was pandemonium to say the least!!!
There were guys arriving unloading bikes, getting kitted up and whatever else had to be done at the last minute.
Rider XXXX (who has a fear of being named on the internet) arrived and informed me that 4 more guys were coming , so that made a neat 20 starters. As I knew all 4 of the new starters and knew they could really ride and fend for themselves, I was more than happy for them to tag along with us.
The bikes on the ride were
4 Xr’s ,3 x 600 , 1 x 400
1 x CRF250X
4 WR’s 2 x 250, 2 x 450
4 x KTM’s 1 x 530, 1 x 525,1x 520, 1 x 300
1 x DRZ250
2 Huskys
2 Gas Gas
1 x TM450
Someone can correct me here as for the life of me I can’t remember what the last bike was.
Sorry Chris no Kawasakis !!!We grouped up at the Servo for a bit of a briefing,
Once we all took off, I must say I looked back at the 19 bikes following me and it was an impressive sight to say the least. The makings of a great day.
I didn’t take long before the first problem raised it’s head, 8km’s into the ride Ollie’s steering dampener shat itself causing to him come off. No real harm done, he is now sporting some grazes up his leg. No sooner did we get Ollie going and Tripper got his mandatory early morning flat tyre.
Got that fixed with a bit of drama, in their haste the boys pinched the tube, oh well you get that on big jobs. There is always a first for everything Rider XXXX isn’t there!!.
It was always going to a bit of drama getting 20 bikes through 100kms of trails.
The next 30kms were relatively trouble free until we got to the more serious hill climbs.
I was the next to have a moment, I crashed right at the top of a hill with the boys in hot pursuit, all I could do was wait for the whole pack to pass before I could get going again ,all the while wearing the roost the boys were laying on me. Just as I was about to get a start at the last section of hill Dean went past on the 450 Gasser and he flipped it just ahead of me and blocked the trail leaving only one line up the hill and he also had to wear his fair share of roost from the crew. The next hold up was when the arse end off Ollies Husky that Rick was riding fell off and was lost to the wilderness, luckily the boys back tracked and actually found it as it had the number plate on it. By that time the crew was happy for a rest anyhow.
From there it was a short run to Comboyne Rock, and once again mother Nature was kind to us and the view was fantastic.
The boys at the Rock……..Unfortunately a couple of the team missed the photo.
From the rock to our lunch stop was only about 5 km and in the 5 km there was carnage. Tripper went bush on the XR with no damage done, then Craig had a big off on the KTM525 which he pulled up better from than the bike. Somehow the clutch master cylinder got smashed, so Craig had no clutch from then on..
It is a bit hard to tell from the pic, but that is something that couldn’t be fixed on the trail.
To Craig’s credit he had some cement and hardened up and continued on the ride with no clutch, a champion effort as he at no stage ,held the ride up.
Moose and his daughter Laura were on hand at Swans Crossing with a great feed for everyone, which went down a treat. Full marks to Moose, to miss the big ride and drive all the way there ,so everyone got a feed. How would you like to be enjoying a nice peaceful camping trip and this lot roll up?
This is what it is all about getting together meeting new people and having some laughs……
The last 30 odd KM home were fast to say the least as every one was by this stage “in the Groove”.and with the free flowing single trail the boys had a blast with out one incident.
Back at the shed at my place we settled in for beers and some great story telling, which topped the day off nicely.
Special thanks goes to all the boys who came along on the ride, everyone had a great time.
Extra special thanks to Moose for organizing lunch for the boys and to Ant for riding sweep all day and shouting a couple of cartons of beer for the post ride drinks. Their help made the day the great one it was.August 17, 2008 at 12:20 am #107084Well done Mick top write up, took me away from those dodgy porn sites 4 a while.

Chris.August 17, 2008 at 9:30 pm #107077Day 3
Sunday morning, saw Duncan, Craig ,Gili,Fossil, Moose and myself kitting up at my shed in preparation for a mystery ride that was to be lead by Rider XXXX.
He had seen how the boys rode on Saturday and had plotted a route that was going to be a bit of a challenge for us but nothing to stupid. I was a tad concerned what RiderXXXX had in store for us as the lads are a bit more hard core than us.
WE arrived at the servo at the designated time and I spotted that there was a new rider there ,that I had seen race MX and he can go pretty good, so from that moment I realised that the pace of the ride was probably going to be quicker than we were used to.
I wasn’t wrong either, as soon as we left the servo we were straight into some tight stuff more suited to a trials bike than an XR600 and the boys were setting a really quick pace and before long I was experiencing the arm pump from hell in my left arm from clutching the big girl.
Gili was the first to run into trouble in a bog hole, The WR450 was bogged trying to exit a creek that had no water in it, but a muddy porridge like slop in the bottom.
The first thing that went through my mind when I saw how bogged he was, was how the hell are we going to get 2 XR600s through that shit, when a rider of Gili’s capabilities was stuck on a brand new WR450.
Moose was the first to attempt it on his 600 and just rode around Gili and up the bank like it was nothing, so I decided to use his line and tractor out like he did. Nup, My pig decided she wanted to wallow in the mud with Gili, She got all cross rutted and I ended up in a similar predicament as Gili. I was up to the tops of my boots in the foul smelling shit trying to man handle the XR’s arse end around so it was at least pointed in the right direction to exit the creek, There is nothing like a boot full of stinking mud 10 minutes into a ride.
Now he had us “warmed up”, RiderXXXX led us through some sweet trails at a cracking pace , I will admit the pace was a wee bit beyond my comfort level and a few times I thought to myself ”am I gunna get through this day unscathed?”
Being accustomed to leading most rides, I don’t get to ride in other bike’s dust very often so it was a relatively new experience. The fact I was riding semi blinded by dust lead to my next “moment”, I was hammering the XR down a trail and at the last moment I saw the biggest erosion mound of the day right in front and I knew it was to late to back off as all that would have done was see me air bourne, front wheel down, so I went for broke and gassed the XR and Holy shit, She has never flown higher or longer since I have owned it!!! That is the most air I have ever had out trail riding as we were also going down hill at the time. I had enough air time to think “is this gunna end well?”
As it turned out I did every thing exactly right and gassed as I landed and all was sweet, It was one of those moments on the trail when you did something sweet and wished someone else had seen you do it , well Gili saw it and reckoned I had some serious air happening, far more than a sane person would get on an XR600!!!
The local boys who led the ride, took us on their trails that they had cut in themselves and if you didn’t know they were there you would just ride past them, as I have done for the last couple of years. To finish of the day we did a single trail that was obviously set up by mountain bike riders, it was really tight and had little wooden bridges and man made obstacles, another place not designed for big thumpers but I will admit I had fun even though I was about rooted.
As a mark of respect for the local lads I didn’t take any photos or marks for their tracks and I wont be showing anyone were they are.
A big thanks to RiderXXXX and his mates for taking us on their trails as they didn’t have to do it.
So that pretty well sums up the weekend, I did a total of 223km of some challenging riding and had a great weekend of laughs , beers and some great camaraderie. That is what it is all about.
Thanks everyone that came for a ride and a special thanks to the people who went out of their way to help the ride be the success it was. You know who you are, so no names need be mentioned.
Cheers

I was wondering why you were trying to kick your bike with your left foot.
You did well to get the bike home from where we were, given the damage to your foot.
No cement required!!! Good stuff Gili. -
