Caltex 98 doesnt have Ethanol, should be good,as rocket said it is definatley a fuel supply problem, is the filter in the tank Ok? just guessing now,did you try carby cleaner?

Other than that, you may have to bite the bullet and let a mechanic have a look at it.
Hope it goes well for you
BTW here is a exploded view it may help diagnose any problems

November 8, 2009 at 12:52 am #159932Mick any chance you could post some pix of your floats just wont see if my ones are the same cheers if you can
November 8, 2009 at 2:03 am #159933I dont reckon they would be the wrong floats. That is certainly drawing a long bow. Is the carby old and well worn? Have we explored float level? Even cable adjustment?
November 8, 2009 at 2:12 am #159936Can you source a carby for loan that you can fit, even a standard one that would tell you if its carby or fuel supply, and I dont have one anymore, Chicken may have I will see what I can find out for you

November 8, 2009 at 2:43 am #159937i have the standard one that i pulled off the bike to put the mikuni on the standard one was ok no probs with fuel supply with it on
how would cable adjustment help the cable is new anyway
the carby dose not look worn dont know how old it is as it was second hand
November 8, 2009 at 5:26 am #159941ok so i found out that the floats were put in wrong maybe by me  so that have fixed the fuel flow problem
now i have another problem and that is that there is fuel poring out the hose on the bottom of the carby only stops when you turn the fuel off is that to do with float level
November 8, 2009 at 8:02 am #159959sounds like you have a lot of patiance think your on the right track but
