Im not saying that an engine water temp will reach 190 degree’s C either, but it is nice to know that it will boil at a higher temp and thus offer far greater confidence when the going gets tough
I am a mechanical engineer of 30 years as well and have studied thermal dynamics
What I am saying for $35 a litre give it a try if it works great! if not what have you lost?
Ps I like the pretty pictures

September 29, 2010 at 10:29 am #188068just ride faster :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: and it wont overheat keap your radiater clean and if its a bit old check the thermastat and cap should have 1.8bar cap on 09 010 ktm s 1.4 on 08 just replace it with a 1.8.think the only real fix is a fan as TB said personaly think they should have a catch bottle like the yamahas dam euro trash ktms should have a better cooling system :S (just my opionion its hot in australia)
September 29, 2010 at 10:33 am #188070im just a truckdriver with 30 years working out of a backyard shed with nothing but a few mates half piss ed saying “yeah that should do” while there watching you work on something but if something works for you , you stick with it and please take this light heartedly .. but its true!!!
September 29, 2010 at 10:43 am #188072So we all agree it works  I will put it in my 650 when I rebuild it next year based upon what I had heard about it before and Huskyblokes recommendation

September 29, 2010 at 11:27 am #188074Quad dog or super dog HB?
September 29, 2010 at 11:28 am #188021I had a 07 525 & my current 09 530 both fitted with ktm thermo fans.Expensive but well worth it.Even in summer 30c+ on single trail in the sand dunes of stockton beach no overheating.Well worth the investment.
Just a note, if you fill the radiators more than 15mm above the fins the expansion will overflow onto the exhaust & cause steam. This can be mistaken for a boiling bike.Just my 2 cents worth

JoeSeptember 29, 2010 at 12:58 pm #188080Just finished discussing this elsewhere, if i ever own a 4T bike again (which I will in a big roadie) one of my first mods is a decent oil cooler, a very underrated mod afaiak, this is a definite way forward and can help offset engine longevity as a bonus.
Just think about it rationally, oil is not as effective as H2O based stuff at heat exchange, however it does do a good enough job to hold some 300 hp turbo Gsxr11s together.

Ollie this is one time i will have to agree with TB if you run a engine at anything over 120deg c you will be killing it stop the engine and wait for it to cool down or fit a fan i dont run any kind of coolants as there all foaming agents and cause realy bad water pump cavation
the most unreliable part of a cooling system is the cap i replace mine reguarly and it only takes a small amount of junk under the suckback valve and there will be coolant spewing out at a lot less pressure than what the 1.4 -1.8 pressure its suppose to holdOctober 5, 2010 at 4:21 am #188022Ive bought the Engine Ice ( from MCAS for $32 ), and the fan kit has just hit Sydney Customs from San Francisco, so I should have it soon.
Am heading out to Louee on Friday for 2 1/2 days of riding – not sure Ill have time to fit the fan before then, but I’ll definately add the Ice.
Dont forsee any dramas at louee with heat, as it’ll be faster riding.
