Prado is not as thirsty as the territory.I used to have a turbo diesel and my wife drives a territory.Typical ford plastics break easy on all the gadget things inside. Allthough over long distance drives i reckon the ford is heaps better like when your on the freeway etc alot smoother on the road.Prado is alot tougher in the bush.If your gonna be a towny go the ford…if you are going to belt it in the bush…go the prado.

    Bol :woohoo:

Cheers Bol, it will be mostly town but also to tow the bikes/trailer, also want to start getting out in the bush more as the kids are getting a bit older now.

    But i’m just biased !;p

Scotty, what goes wrong with the territory’s? 2wd probs same as 4wd?

my sister is looking at one for down the track.
    .

XY, mechanicaly not much, the big six goes strong and no doubt will do big k’s no problems. The early territory was based on a falcon chassis and platform that was converted to a 4WD style vehicle. In doing so it seams Ford didn’t put as much R&D into the Territory as they did the Falcon.

It was little things like bad fiiting trim work body work and trimmings and the rear tail gates would rub together wearing the paint back to bare metal. I’ve seen 6 month old Territory’s starting to rust in this area. This is just not good enough for a $40,000+ car.

On looks alone I think the territory is a better looking car than the Prado but if I was buying a car to keep for the long term out of these two it would be the Prado. The Prado would also do a better job off road.

XY, don’t be offended it’s not a Ford bashing thing, I don’t give a crap for brand loyalty bullshit. It’s just prior to my current job I spent 20 years working on cars which gave me a good eye for quality and the Territory isn’t it.

Scotty Your opinions are well valued!!! I pretty much already decided the prado but thought i’d do a bit more poking around on the territory it’s cheaper!

    no offence taken Scott!

i asked what prob’s you had found, as the ford forums prob. hide it,

more so the dealers and ford themselves!

i wanted an honest opinion, and i thank you for it!;)

yeah i saw the under side of a BA XR6 > about 6-12 months old, and was disappointed with build quality. the alloy K-frame had casting dags all over it

i would prob. buy a landcruiser over the Terri for any amount of off/ rough pot holed roads we get.

even like the Nissan Navara, mate has a V6 twin cab, i’m impressed by the ride. but twin cabs too small in rear seat.

i would only buy a V8 explorer! 4L V6 aren’t called exploders for no reason. and $3000.00 to replace the timing chain

Another vote for the Prado. My uncle (‘Mike’ on here) has one and it’s a nice fourby. Cruises very well and accelerates pretty good too. His is the petrol version.

He upgraded from an older model and isn’t one to buy sh*t.

Territory’s are crap. Although if like the feeling of being on a boat you might like the Territory. We have them at work and there have been some that the tail gates have rusted in less than 2 years. Plus they like a drink.

    Hey Chris

You ride a Yamaha so you should be smart enough to work out that Toyota is the clear choice here :)

I was drooling over the Toyota project bike on Wednesday. That would be perfect, load my Toyota onto the back of my Toyota and drive off into the sunset.

The Turbo Diesel Prado’s are great in the bush. I’ve done alot of work with them in the field over the last fews years and have giving them an absolute flogging and they keep on going. They run good on the highway too. My nephew had a Territory but sold it pretty quickly as he reckoned it was a shitbox in the bush. I wish i was in the field now instead of the office.
