The piston has grabbed in the barrel of my old CR. It has already been bored out and an oversized piston fitted. It’s meant to have a Nicasil coated bore. Is it possible to either re-bore it further, or get a new sleeve or is a new barrel the way to go. Service Honda has them for $380ish on the net. Everywhere else lists them as obsolete.
I am a 4 stroke bloke so not real clued up on old 2 strokes.

Hey Jimmy $380 is cheap get 2 ! A nicasil bore will out perform a sleeve everyday of the week. Less heat sink into the barrel = better more consistent power over a longer period. And you dont have to rebore them ;)

Any idea why it locked it up? To lean or just well overdue for the slug and rings?

As I said I am a 2 stroke novice. It had a new piston and rings about 5 hours ago. I was hooking up the road and dropped it back a gear and it just stopped firing. Didn’t lock up. It wasn’t till the barrel came off that you could see the damage. I thought it had put a hole in the piston, hence loss of compression.
So guess it was running too lean.

Got any pics of the barrel and piston
Might be able to get a better idea on what happened
