now that would be intertesting
Yamaha Australia put the feelers out, but the mothership in Japan veto’d it worried it would detract from their thre other adr’d offerings
June 9, 2011 at 10:14 pm #188470Hey! Aaron, I’v got a bike you might like,,,,,,It’s a 98 RMX:cheer: Looks and go’s a lot like the ol Yamy two banger, and in better nick than that one and it’s already got rego, and you can have it for a bargain price under, well under 3K.
But you’d have to be happy with a banana coulord bike.:sick: HA!
If yu not addicted to Yamy’s it would be worth a look.
Cheers Teza.
December 26, 2011 at 10:50 pm #188471I’ve owned my 98 WR250zk since 2000 and cannot see myself selling it. It would easily have over 20,000km on it. A mate had the same era RMX and the WR had the edge over it. The only thing is it is very thirsty I get about 50km from the stock tank and pushing 80km out of the long range tank.
December 26, 2011 at 11:12 pm #188472you could probably swap the cr for it before it blows up :pinch:
Go the Blue
and then u could come to my place for a ride and i could have a try

December 27, 2011 at 12:09 am #188473The WR250 and the RMX250 are the last of the Japanese 2t enduro bikes. The WR being more hard edged than the RMX although it is easy to bring out the RM heritage of the RMX.
I recently picked up a cheap RMX as a bit of a test bed as I had a yerning to for a 300 2t euro bike. After riding the 12 year old RMX I can’t see the need to upgrade to a late model euro 2T. A few mods to the RMX will have me happy as a pig in shit.
No doubt the WR would be just as good if not better.
December 27, 2011 at 3:03 pm #213701Nice Bike Metzy very Nice
I have the RMX (as well as several others  ) and feel that for a trail bike once a few mods have been done it is a perfect trail bike, I reckon the WR is much more hard core and and at its best when wound on :woohoo: special test etc etc awsome bike for their intended use. The RMX has 11.5 litre tank as standard and good for well over 110 km’s
in a straight line the WR would eat an RMX ! probably a different story in the singles and hills.

I did all the rebuilds on the RMX and the power valve let it down by hitting the piston, I ended up with 2 stopper plates on the the valve to give clearance to the piston. When the nikasil coating wore off the RMX bore My mate wanted it sleeved right or wrong and would not take my advise to re-plate, he soon found out why as it lost alot of power due to the sleeve. When it comes down to it both bikes can be ridden just as hard as each other in the right hands. 1998 WR250 U tube
December 27, 2011 at 5:02 pm #188499Mr Blue wrote:Mmm Blue Smarties….MmmmmmYep the 1998 six days special designation YZ250Wr was the last of the TRUE 2T WRs that yamaha made, it was based upon a mix of the 1998 YZ250 and the previous year models WR250. A true Wide ratio gearbox and compliant rear suspension made it more enduro oriented.
I have an article here in my archives about them as I damn near boought one in Mint condition a few years back from up new england way, which leads me to think one of the dealers up there sold many of them( of not so many made, again I think it was Bert Flood that got them ADR’d) or had a hand in building the custom bikes. They seem to command good $$$ even now.
A good bike but front end was a bit slow on the steer from memory of the YZs of that time, not a carver like an RM or CR, but very stable at speed.
Those engines typical of the MX 2Ts of the late ninties put out close to 50hp, so in the power stakes definitely no slouch.
Is this cells Boony speaks of a tight mongrel technical S/Tif it is perfect hunting ground for a 2T.
Kokoda is what STM would call “0” trail or no trail. Lantana man will be seen there the next time I go there with a motorised hedging machine. You know the trails where the vines catch between your nose and the chin guard and rip you a new one !!! Seriously suck ass. Only the happy hunting ground of a bush fire! 👿

The WR beat the Crf to the punch of blowing up Bob. After now getting used to electric start I will not look at a bike without it. I still kick start my Crf but it is where you are in a prick of a spot where it it is worth its weight in gold!! So no WR250 2T for me even if it is free!! Sorry Mr blue.
December 28, 2011 at 12:24 am #188475Just up loaded a You Tube video of riding around Lake Moondarra Mount Isa.

You would just flip it after about 30 seconds of getting on it, just like you did on Petes YZ/WR

Yeh! I know about that, prick of a spot thing.
I’m still riding the RMX and pretty much liking it,,it go’s good,,but the other day I stalled it on the top of a three step rocky ledge with the back weel hanging over the top ledge,I had to clamber of the bike n get down on the ledge below n with the bike on it’s side lift the back of it up on top,so i could pick it up n start it.With a button,I could have just hit it n rode on,,,but the good thing is,that 250 smokers are ezy to kick and are pretty light to pick up.
December 29, 2011 at 12:11 am #188476i had a south african guy who turned up for one of my rides the other day and he was on a 99 yz250 which he brought over with him, but he was saying that in SA they can sell you an optional wr kit which includes gearbox internals, reeds, lights etc,etc to change the yz over.
He was a good rider and was flying on what seemed to be a very capable bikeDecember 29, 2011 at 12:17 am #188565Mr Blue wrote:There was recent a mint ’04 Yz250wr on ebay on the gold coast. had really low hours, but I think it went for a bit of a song too, around $4K from memory.YZ250wr from 01-05 are fully complianced registerable in any state.
