    Go the Blue

and then u could come to my place for a ride and i could have a try

The WR beat the Crf to the punch of blowing up Bob. After now getting used to electric start I will not look at a bike without it. I still kick start my Crf but it is where you are in a prick of a spot where it it is worth its weight in gold!! So no WR250 2T for me even if it is free!! Sorry Mr blue.

Yeh! I know about that, prick of a spot thing. :P I’m still riding the RMX and pretty much liking it,,it go’s good,,but the other day I stalled it on the top of a three step rocky ledge with the back weel hanging over the top ledge,I had to clamber of the bike n get down on the ledge below n with the bike on it’s side lift the back of it up on top,so i could pick it up n start it.With a button,I could have just hit it n rode on,,,but the good thing is,that 250 smokers are ezy to kick and are pretty light to pick up. :)

I’m sure you could do some sort of heart surgery and put a button on it ,
I love my button as well even though mine is easy as to kick over

Just reading through this thread as looking for a WR250 2T, heard they are a great bike and thought it would keep the 2011 WR450F company in the garage as well as handy to have a spare bike when the 450 has its motard rubber on. Lots people rate the WR250 2T however info or actual knowledge is hard to come by. I am on the far north coast and we don’t have a large selection of 2nd hand bikes if you are chasing a particular model so I have found one interstate and will probably buy sight unseen and rely on selllers photos and honesty. Mr Blue seems to have a handle on these bikes so I was wondering if he or someone else could maybe answer a few questions? I have found a 1999 model that looks pretty tidy, bike is in Qld and owner says it was registered by the previous owner but not registered now and has no lights or blinkers, I’m good with electrical so this is no problem.

    1. Is the 1999 model ADR compliant?
    2. Where would the owner find the complince plate? (steering head I assume).
    3. Pictures of compliance plate, frame and engine number should be enough to prove bike is legitimate?
    4. Any particular problems should really ask about?
    5. Is a search of http://www.ppsr.gov.au sufficient to protect me from buying a stolen bike or can anyone suggest a better option. Only ever bought registered bikes and always used REVS but apparently http://www.ppsr.gov.au is now the place to check?

    Cheers Al

Update on the wr 2 smoker. Ended up buying the beast, and is in good condition apart from a clean up. started tearing it down and as it normally happens got about half way through it and decided what the hell, strip it down paint the frame, new bearings everywhere, not going as far as an engine rebuild as yet will ride it for a while and piston & rings over winter, Pretty happy with the bike just cant wait to get it in the bush

    Cheers

    I owned a WR250 2T for four years before I purchased a XRR.

In hindsight I regret letting it go simply because it was oh so reliable. Regular work like linkages, wheel bearings, seals and rings were never more than routine.

The wiring is simple, the frame is tough and many aftermarket parts compatible with the YZ250.

On single trail it was fabulous. On fire trail it was …..a 2 stroke. It did not climb hills as well as a Husqvarna CR250 but you can still buy flywheel weights for them that change the ‘torque’

The biggest weakness was by far the rear shock as it was too close to the YZ and designed to leap over SX triples and allow you to land. On an all-day ride it would compress your spine.

I would own another in a heartbeat especially given the suspension work available these days.
