    G’day
I went for a little adventure ride last week for a couple of nights and thought I’d post it up. I left home at 12pm on Wednesday from Lake Macquarie with a bit of rain chasing me out up through Maitland where it stopped when I reached Patterson. I had a pie at the pie shop and then up through Gresford and into Dungog. Further on towards Gloucester I made a lefty which went onto dirt and was heaps of fun.

I ended up looping back to Gloucester through Barrington where I met a couple of mates for the night.

The next day saw us up early and on the road to Scone over Barrington Tops. What a blast that was.

After a quick cuppa we were on the out skirts of Scone heading towards Merriwa on the dirt. Fun all round. Cattle grates and cause ways everywhere. This was my first overnight ride on my DR and I was unsure how I’d go but I was having the best time. We pulled up at Merriwa for lunch and the headed off to Coolah Tops via some backway that oldmate on the BMW had sussed out as he was the navigator. This ended up being about a 20 km deadend but was heaps of fun too and it got a little tight towards the end for the bikes. Locked gate saw us turn around and head for Cassilis where we had a beer and a chat to some locals.
Then off to Coolah “over the backway” where we each got a room in the pub with the bikes locked up out back. The next morning we headed off to Coolah Tops NP to check out the water fall which didn’t have much of a flow but was worth a look on such a nice day.

We had a further look around before heading out through Pandoras Pass and onto Premer. This part was my favorite bit of the ride. I was grinning my head off as we pulled up.
After my mate gave me some fuel we said our good buys as they were heading north and me heading back home. With a little more dirt I ended up pulling into Quirindi via some back road. I rode down through the hunter valley on the New England HWY which was pretty good fun too in and out of the traffic with me just cruising. After a few kms and some more fuel I ended up going over Sugarloaf range and then poked my way home through some local tracks nice and slow which got me grinning again.

I was pretty buggered but happy as and it only cost me about $220 leaving me some change for some beers and a movie with the Mrs that night.

Ride reports keep me sane while I am at work, even though it was an adventure ride :P

    Hi Mick
The red bag on the back just had a pair of shoes and some tools and levers if I got a flat. The rest of my gear was in my backpack. When I bought the dr I wasn’t really looking to do any overnight stuff or much dirt. I was planning on just riding it to work and stuff. I got it with just under 4000 Kms on it all stocky and no bush work. It went surprisingly well though on the trip. It did not hold the other bikes on the road but they had to be doing about 140 before they got me. On the dirt it was pretty good too as I had a bit more room to move and less weight than the others. I’m now thinking of setting it up a bit better but for a couple of nights it work ok.
