Well, we got on the turps in the shed on Friday night with a few of the local OBTers dropping by. All was going well until Rowan produced a six pack of Jim Beam cans.

Whilst we were having a few beverages Osmooian text me to say he was unable to ride the next morning and RiderX also pulled out so it was just Me and Itsagas going for a spin the next Morning.

Although I was a bit dusty when I woke up I still beat Itsagas to the 7 am meeting spot.

A happy snap of the Pig waiting patiently

Itsagas turned up and we headed off straight up the face of Bago, then into some gnarly single trail that had us warmed up in no time.

At the top, I bet Dean was puffing at this stage as I certainly was.

From there we went down into the rainforest sections, I found a freshly cut single so I proceeded down it and the further we went down the greasier it got, we got to the stage where we could no longer turn around and we had to trust our luck that the exit from the gully wasn’t going to be a steep and greasy as the entry.

AS it turned out is wasn’t as steep but was ten times greasier and in my attempt to get up the creek bank to XR spun to a stop. STUCK.

With a bit of lifting ,pushing and revving the pig eventually scratched up out of the creek. Then we had to repeat the whole thing to get the Gasser through.

Once we were up and out of the greasy gully we were confronted with some awesome trails that I had never ridden before. We explored some more trails and managed to link up the new tails with some of the trails that I know, in the process adding another 7km of singles to my Comboyne Rock loop.

We found another uphill we thought we would cut in and in the process I was cruising up the hill picking my lines in the long grass when my vision was obscured by a blast of sunshine in the face. At that very moment I hit a stump on the grass and the Pig came to an abrupt stop, in a vain attempt to avoid dropping the XR I shot my left leg out and somehow pulled a muscle in the back of my knee and it hurt like a bitch and still is.
I got up and walked it off for a moment and the bad pain went away so I got back on the bike and tried to continue on but it was obvious all was not well with my left leg, so at the 60km mark I pulled the pin and headed back to town. I spent a majority of Saturday arvo with my leg elevated on ice, I am hoping I have just pulled a muscle, I will admit though it is still hurting like a bitch.

The back of my knee is sporting some interesting shades of purple and yellow, one would think I have gone out in sympathy with TB. :(

I would say that I wont be back on the Pig for a week or two. :(

tHe cutting down of the tree had to be done regardless. I had organised the ute, saw etc and the brownie points went up a few levels after hobbling around the place all day.

What is worrying me Boony is that I have already had two ACL reconstructions on this knee. I dont think i have done my ACL though, I am hoping that I have just injured a muscle as my calf (not bovine calf) is as hard and swollen as a honeymooner’s tockley.

Hey mick it was bloody slippery out there this weekend ah. I went out on Sat and did my fair share of slippen and sliding all over the place. Had a couple of slow speed endos when my front wheel caught some greasy logs through some overgrown terrain…took me ages to wash me bike cause of all the clay stuck everywhere and i was pretty waterlogged aswell. No dust though. :)

G’day Mick. I was out Saturday to pre-ride the horse endurance track for a mate (you would have seen the arrows)and had a mad lap from Herrons Creek-Bago etc beforehand. Did the same thing in that creek. Probably should avoid that track or make a bridge. It is right on the Vineyard boundary and it is going to become a big mess (which would be a shame as the rest of the track is fun!). I love singletrack and have made my fair share but that new one that runs past the swimming hole is not going to make many friends with the authorities…
Hope I dont sound like too much of a killjoy.
    Hope the leg gets better.
I did try calling you Saturday as well Dean.

Yeah I agree 100% there about that trail needing a bridge or something. We found out the hard way. I wont be in a hurry to run it again, so long as the bush is wet as it is. Was that the Winery boundary we rode down then? We found it by accident whilst looking for a sweet section I have ridden in the past. It seems as though the rest of the trail is OK it is just that creek that is sketchy.
