Yesterday morning was a cracker. The weather was perfect for a run on the bike, so with a leave pass allowing enough time for a quick run up to Gingers Creek the temptation was just too much! Little did I know how quick that run was going to be!!
As I was grabbing some fuel in Wauchope, Geoff Ballard and Glen Wilcox pulled up on their big Beemers. Once they found out I was planning to run up the Old Highway they were keen to tag along, as neither had been through there before.
They put the pressure on me from the get go, and we were soon doing speeds that may have had the local constabulary tutt tutting.
Anyhow I had my hands full leading those two boys through the old highway on my bog stock Tenere, It was bottoming out and sliding all over the place but I was still having a ball!
Once we hit the Oxley highway again, we said our goodbys and the boys headed on their way to Sydney.I then headed onto Gingers Creek for breakfast and a cup of coffee with Garry the owner of Gingers and a few other Wauchope locals that frequent the place every Sunday.
Anyhow to cut a long story short, I just slabbed it down the twisties on the Highway to Long Flat pub for a quick beverage before heading home a bit later than I had promised. Upon arrival at home expecting a frosty welcome, I was pleasantly surprised when the dear wife asked if I could take her for a ride on the Tenere. :woohoo:
All in all a good day out and I am happy enough with the Tenere and the ride gave me a good idea what mods need doing to it in the future.
June 15, 2014 at 8:47 pm #257595well done mick your a lucky man
June 16, 2014 at 6:51 am #257596:laugh: Great day out Mick !!!
Lucky you took the better half out for a run mate, that`s one of the reasons you got the bike past the Minister for approval wasn`t it ???
I would have like to see the look on your eyes while you tried to keep ahead of the two Beemers with those nutters on your tail :woohoo:
June 16, 2014 at 8:38 am #257643So mick as I’m not a latte sipper you will have to explain how you managed to ride a bog standard Tenere. After reading TBs thread TB’s New XTZ660 Tenere #4 09 May 2014 20:26 #164224, I figured they must be a crock when you have to do that much after market work to them to make them rideable. Worse still all the bits he replaced with after market stuff he put into your bike. The only obvious solution is that you must be an incredibly skilled rider to be able to do what you managed, suppose that’s obvious when you were drinking beer instead of lattes.

I’m starting to think Yamaha’s aren’t much chop straight out of the box. Buzz what’s your take on this subject.
Boony
June 16, 2014 at 9:04 am #257649No Boony your confused. The 250 is purchased by Tenere riders to carry as an optional spare unless of course they go with an after market spare such as an XR650. Mick was lucky he already had one, now he just needs to fit a spare carrier onto his Tenere and he’s right to do long trips.

June 16, 2014 at 9:12 am #257651His fat arse could be accommodated by fitting shocks of the early hr Holden models but when you put them on a Tenere they only work properly if you also fit a sticker to show you have done the modification. Fitting the sticker without doing the shock replacement apparently works nearly as well.
June 16, 2014 at 10:05 am #257597Good to see you out on the Ten Mick
Where was Ballard and Wilcox heading off too for the day
Cheers

June 16, 2014 at 12:56 pm #257653Careful Mick it sounds like TB is recommending aftermarket stickers for your wife!
June 16, 2014 at 7:47 pm #257655Well, I near pissed myself reading this thread!
I tell a fib, the Tenere isn’t 100% stock, I took the rubber inserts out of the foot pegs and it does have a Rideadv sticker on the Perspex bug deflector, that seems to make it go a whole lot better.
Not sure if Melissa enjoyed it all that much as she was scared that she was going to fly off the back due to the shear grunt of the Tenere, this leaves me with two options (1) Change the power delivery curve back to stock by refitting the rubber inserts into the footpegs and/or (2) fit a Screaming Eagle ® sissy bar like what was on the Harley.
Actually Eagle, it wasn’t too hard to stay ahead of the boys on the Beemers as they were fully aware that my Tenere was TB’s old RideAdv lead bike and they just presumed that they weren’t allowed to overtake it.
Besides they still had another 10 hours of riding ahead of them, as they were heading to Hampton so they weren’t really pushing as hard as I know they could.
Despite all the piss taking, I enjoyed the day out on the new bike, saw and rode some great country, rode with some good blokes (that rang me yesterday and thanked me for showing them around), had a sneaky beer or two before lunch, scared myself more than once and also got to share some seat time with the missus. All in all, no matter what style of riding or bike I was on it all that adds up to a good day all round. :woohoo:
June 16, 2014 at 9:46 pm #257598:laugh: Nice replies there Mick,
This thread had gone to the dogs almost last night 😆June 17, 2014 at 12:11 am #257656hello Mick,
I had always thought selling rural real estate was only for window lickers, donut punchers and lovers of the odd poddy calf…… (like Bollocks)
I had honestly believed you when you told me that due to the tough crisis that is/was the GFC, you had to bite down on your pillow, put on your best panties, say goodbye to your mate Tom cruise and mince your way out of the closet in the guise of a new job.
seems to me it was just a long winded story so you could buy a tenere and ride off to Pooh Bay to drop your anchor in a sailor or vise versa.
kudos go to you my sly old mate as taking the lovely Melissa for a dink was a top ploy to remain seemingly a real full man,
(whilst the unbearable urge to gargle gonads was secretly tingling your loins)
after all she did have a handbag that you could carry your balls in for the trip.
but really Mick, is there all that need to use the secret codes of the latte slurpers?
we all know what you mean when you say “rubber inserts for your footpegs”
and “trying to fit in Eagles screaming sissy Bar”……
its time to give up trying to “change your power delivery curve mate… you’ll just end up hurting your back again.
kind regards,
Ol’ mate Menace
June 17, 2014 at 12:34 am #257657Classic, you certainly have a comical turn of phrase! How are you Menace, you Mexican quoit burglar. When was the last time you turned a wheel in anger?
BTW, Melissa wasn’t carrying a hand bag that was a bucket hanging on the pool fence in the background you twit. :pinch:
