Got off the phone to a good mate this afternoon and one of his good friends and neighbor was killed on a motorbike on Saturday.
When something tragic like this happens it affects so many people, especially in a country town. The fella was a husband and a father, school teacher at the local catholic high school and from all accounts, one of the nicest blokes you would ever meet.
Apparently he had a great love of bikes and had a brand new Ducati in the shed.He left home to meet up with his family who were waiting for him at Church. He lives about 15 km from town and there is a big long stretch of sealed road before you get to the highway. The day before i was at a clients place who live on this stretch of road, lovely people, their 17 year old grand daughter turned onto the road and the impact was sudden.
My mate was there with him at his side until the ambos finally got there. He was conscious but was suffering horrific injuries, the ambos asked him how fast he might have been going and his response was ” significantly higher than the speed limit”.The fellas wife is a nurse at the hospital and a mate of mine was the surgeon on call at the time. The staff at the hospital worked on him for 6 straight hours but he was suffering a ruptured artey in the pelvic region, enventually the hospital ran out of blood and he passed away 11.30 that night.
The staff at the hospital were distraught as he was well known to them through his wife.My mate is still in shock and i can’t even think what the poor girl would be going through at the moment.I grieve for the family, the tight knit community of people who live down that quite country road, the staff and students at the school he taught at and all that knew this man.
Take from this what you will, and i’m sure all our thoughts are with his family and friends.
R.I.P. Local bike rider.
