November 30, 2009 at 12:14 pm #163243Good report Dan.
DR is looking the part Kylie, the yellow gard makes a huge difference.
November 30, 2009 at 7:55 pm #163262Yeah the DRz looks much better with the yellow guard.
It’s nice to be able to do these rides in summer, tell you what it’s too hot for dirt riding, I did an explore ride on sunday at the Watagans with TW and a couple of others, too hot, too dry, dirt was like talc powder, sweating like a sweathog, passed out when I got home, still haven’t washed the bike.
I’m switching over to Motard mode this week!
November 30, 2009 at 8:01 pm #163263Yeah this has inspired me so much I have planned my first ride back to be a motard ride on the 16th of Dec and cant wait

It is earlier than expected, TB has been lucky with his recovery.
As far as wheelies go I would say old habits die hard eh TB?

It really was only planned on short notice and we weren’t even sure if we could pull it off. I had even told Tracy that we would organise a ride to Nelsons Bay but wasn’t sure when we could do it. We just found a spot free in our schedule and decided to make the most of it.
And yes it probably would have been too early for you.
We left home just before 7 I think and we were seated for breakfast before 8 (am that is Moto) .
Funnily enough I did say to Daniel that we could drop in and see you but I wanted more ride time. Sorry about that. Don’t be upset by that it’s just riding v seeing Moto. You know which way that was going to go.
However if you had of added Tyne and Sam and Molly into that then I probably would have swung the other way.
Definetly next time.

AnonymousAs for the actual ride, I really enjoyed it. Although the ride to Nelsons Bay wasn’t the most exciting I was happy to get used to the DR and as there are a lot of roundabouts on the way up there found that I was getting the hang of the different way that it corners.
Even though breaky was scrumptious I found that we were both scoffing it down just so that we could get back on our way.
It was at this point that I realised that I didn’t want to go straight home. So after a rude stop at my brothers (i.e. here’s the bike, cool isn’t it, no I can’t come in, no you can’t ride it like I said you could, gotta go) we headed towards Raymond Terrace.
I knew that I was probably getting close to running out of fuel and looked longingly at the fuel station near Williamtown but DanD didn’t get the idea so we continued on. Near Grahamstown Dam I heard the bike cough and found the fuel tap with my hand but was trying to turn it the wrong way. D’oh! Therefore I found out the hard way how the DR performs on the dirt. I had to veer off quickly because it was dying fast and once the rear wheel hit the dirt it did a big slide down the side of the road.
Anyway put the fuel on reserve and then made it into Raymond Terrace. Funnily enough DanD was thinking that the NX was getting great consumption because he hadn’t hit reserve yet but then found out that he’d had it on reserve the whole time.
He was down to his last thimble full.
So we left the servo thinking that we would head out to Laguna and have a drink at the Wine Bar and then head home. However it was getting later and the weather warmer so we rode to Kurri, Pelaw Main and then stopped at the Gap Servo. It was along this part of the road that a camper van decided to pull out of an intersection in front of me in a 90km zone and expects me to be able to brake and then sit behind him. That wasn’t going to happen. I couldn’t brake safely so I ended up riding up the left hand side of the road and passing him. Totally illegal I know but the only other option was to end up embedded in the rear of the camper van. It was a good reminder to be extra careful on the road.
So after my trip I worked out that f%$k the DR’s seat is hard! I couldn’t stand sitting on it sometimes and had to stand up every now and then. I am getting the name of an upholstery place that can soften it up for me so I will see if I can get this done before our motard ride with Wikd in January.
Other than that it is a great bike to ride. I had heaps of fun on it.
I can’t wait until our ride in January now.December 1, 2009 at 8:35 am #163361
AnonymousKylie I already have the name of the place that work uses for getting your seat done, short of that I will give it a go myself. Or you could use a dead cat like Wikd does on the Beemer
And yes I did ride the NX on reserve the whole way, that was something that I decided to omit on my ride report thankyou Kylie

I think there is still a dead Squirrel pelt floating round somewhere
That would look “FOOLY SIK BRO” on the DR :woohoo: -
