What bike will be the go? I have no idea what to buy. Last time I bought a bike it was a simple choice, up-date the XR400 to a CRF450X. Now I don’t want another CRF but the choices are immense really as an alternative. I had my heart set on a Husky 449 or 511, but they seem to be more trail orientated according to the last few reviews I have read. I need rego, I like to race pony express’, some fast open going races like Yellow mountain and I would like to have a crack at the Condo 750 again.
So, the choices seem to be, Berg 450, KTM 450EXC, KTM 350EXC(don’t think it will be all that suited to Condo 750 etc),KTM500EXC(seem to be some bad reviews on here regarding the fuel injection), Yamaha WR450(new fuel injected one).
Is the Berg the go? My mrs says that a yellow and blue bike is uncool lol.
Any advice on any of those bikes would be appreciated. The CRF has gone and I am busting to get a new bike in my shed.December 9, 2011 at 11:40 am #212957CRF for the Condo style rides I reckon they are thick on the ground out there for reason. They are the race 450 IMO. my second pick for your riding would be a 2010 WR only because the new injected ones are just to new IMO
Good luck Jimmy I will watch with interest

December 9, 2011 at 12:24 pm #212960just get a flash one :woohoo: personaly i would get an injected one if i was after a 4stroke they run so crisp and use bugger all fuel you just need clean fuel and good filtration .smokens 350 has a filter sock on the filler and has had no probs yet just my opionion .have herd rumers the 012 450 wr s are a bit heavy :pinch:
December 9, 2011 at 2:19 pm #212962I dont think any of those bikes listed will be what you need unfortunetly. I think if people feel that they need a new bike when they have a 450 4t they should just go and buy a 250 or 300 2t as it will make you faster more fun to ride and you will find that 2t riders are smarter more funny and good looking than any of the 4t riders. You may have a bolt come loose and brake pads fall out or something minor like that but really who needs them anyway? Make the jump across and you will instantly feel stronger and your mrs wont wanna leave you alone!
December 9, 2011 at 3:16 pm #212972Thanks NATO,I have a cr250 in the shed already so I can confirm your theory about two strokes increasing our status levels!
Any input from berg owners? The crf did crank hard in the open going trailboss! Then it did it’s crank in lol.December 9, 2011 at 5:21 pm #212958SB and I were talking about this last night, as much as we are a fans of the Yamaha’s I doubt either of us will be pulling the trigger on a 2012 WR450. (Considering I have been waiting 12 months for the release of this bike not to grab one straight up is a big decision)
I like the Huskies and the deals being done atm they would be pretty hard to beat bang for buck, don’t know about them being trail oriented?? anyone that has got one reckons the are the goods for all round.
I have done a couple of bigger races on Honda CRF’s X’s and R’s and IMO the WR’s and CRF’s are very similiar.

I know the stats say it is 3kg heavier than the old model but wouldnt that be offset by it being a better balanced bike ?
December 9, 2011 at 6:22 pm #212959My vote would be for the Husaberg. They have developed a good reliable rep, Garry Connell in WA leads the world is rallye development and the engine style makes them handle lightly.
December 9, 2011 at 10:46 pm #212977Ive got a 450 Berg and its effing awesome. It can chugg along if you need it or wheelstand through every gear and rip your arms out of the socket. That is just on the standard engine map, with the high power engine map i’m sure it would be a good desert racer.
December 9, 2011 at 11:47 pm #212983That sounds like the go LC4skin. Good suspension and is the air filter easy to get at to service etc?
December 10, 2011 at 1:13 am #212990Yep it turns too easy, some of the boys on the Coffs ride commented how smooth it looked (but I just put that down to rider skill
) Plus the 2011 and on bikes get the closed chamber fork, mines a 2010, but I got the fork resprung and revalved and the shock resprung with a progressive spring.
Airfilter access is probably the best there is, just got to make sure you dont drop any crap down the injector, I use an exhaust bung in mine when cleaning an air filter, other than that its a KTM with blue plastics, most parts between the 2 are interchangeable which makes getting parts easier.
January 9, 2012 at 12:23 am #212992Well I finally got around to picking a new bike. I put a deposit on a Husaberg FE450. Will pick it up towards the end of the week with luck!
