    After riding back to camp from Taralga pub one night, looking forward to opening the 6 pack stashed in the bags around the camp fire, I noted how very poor the tenere stock lights are.

    I put in a set of X Vision Solstice lights and they are an improvement, but I am looking forward to upping the bikes original bulbs like TT.

    Anyway, for those interested, I fit the Solstice under the headlight on the little bracket available from Off the Wall. This fits in nicely, putting the lights out of the way and does not hinder the forks at all. Keeps the wires tucked up too.

    The lights came with a harness, which I put straight to the battery via a relay so I could use low current signals to turn them on, wired to give me the following options:

    [ol]
    [li]Turn the lights on independent of headlights;[/li]
    [li]Have the lights come on with high beam; and[/li]
    [li]Have the lights come on with the high beam flasher.[/li]

    [/ol]

    For option, 1, it was easy to have a simple toggle on the dash (I put in a little LED to let me know when they are on;

    Option 2 and 3 was a little harder. I found, on the left hand side of the dash, the connector getting power for High Beam, and tapped a wire into that, going back to the relay. To stop the toggle on the dash powering high beam, by back flowing the current into the high beam circuit, I used a diode, which cost all of $2 from Jaycar.

    The net result is I can turn on the solstice in fog etc… use them with the high beam flasher or just come on with high beam. Works well for me, was easy to install and gives me good flexibility (plus I won’t get in trouble for having them switched on all the time).

    Nice mod ;)
    , we rode from Jindabyne to Hampton on the recent High Country ride and we ended up doing the last hour in thick fog and darkness , more light would have been good :)
    How good are the solstice lights in fog ?

    We had a real thick fog on Saturday morning so I gave the lights a test out. It was in the morning do not really needed for illumination rather to be seen.

    I have the euro beam lights and what I can say is that they had a nice spread of light and did not seem to have a single focal point which I feel is a little distracting when riding at night, as you tend to look only at the bright spot and miss out on the peripherals.

    In summary, not a great test but I would have been very visible to oncoming traffic and with no fog at night, they are a massive improvement.
