August 8, 2010 at 9:10 am #185493Some of us made it, Giselle and I road to Morpeth for breakfast then out through Kurri, Cessnock, Wollombi and Broke on our way to Denman. Had a nice lunch and rode back through Singleton to Maitland and home, all on the tar but still a nice ride even if it was a bit cold. The Strom went like a trooper (Stromtrooper that is
)all day, I will have to get the rear beefed up a bit though, managed to bottom out a couple of times on some of the bigger bumps with the 2 off us on getting up around the 200kg mark most of it me. I now know I can get close to 400Km to a tank even with a big load on which will be good for the corner ride.
August 8, 2010 at 10:20 am #185505Guys, got home about 6.30pm after a 425km round trip – and no sore butt thanks to Marks airhawk seat he lent me to try. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:
Brief ride details
Lotsa and I met at Braithwaite Park at the back of Wyong at 7.30am and headed out to meet the rest of the gang via Ourimbah State Forest, Yarramalong, Cedar Creek, Murrays Run, Laguna and across the Yengo Track ( a couple of times looking for lost gear) to the Putty Rd.
South down Putty Rd to the Commission Rd which we followed through until we came to the California Trail which took us through to Bulga for lunch at 2pm.
After lunch and a refuel we headed south down the Putty to Milbrodale where we took off onto the Old Bulga Rd which took us back onto the Putty Rd again. Continuing south we took the Settlers trail through to Wollombi, Laguna, Yarramalong and back to Braithwaite Park where we split up and headed for home and a hot shower.More details later

August 8, 2010 at 10:29 am #185494What a great meeting spot Sunday 9am at the Macquarie Arms Hotel in Windsor. Australia’s oldest pub built in 1815.
Bike was unloaded in the carpark thanks to a ‘gentlemen’ waiting with his misses to get in a horse and cart for a breakfast tour around Windsor. I think he felt concerned that a blond 5ft 2 with trailbike and milk crate trying to get bike off. It works everytime!!!
Surprise Surprise TB turned up unexpectedly. I logged on before I left Hornsby to confirm the ride and the last report TB was going soft and not coming. BUT here was with all his bags attached. He so looked like the bag lady!!! I’m sure one bag had his makeup (biggest bag). He even packed the mattress. Not sure what he was going to do with that…. Maybe Krusty needed it.
I now understand why TB has an affiliation with the meeting spot. The convicts use to find a way to entertain themselves by smuggling barrels of illegal rum from the Hawkesbury River into the quarters below through the “Rum Smugglers Tunnels”. We didn’t have time to find the tunnels and the pub was closed so quick rum was out of the question. So after Krusty and TB shared an egg and bacon sandwich we were off.
We tar’ed it to the meeting spot. First time getting the Honda 230L with knobby tyres up to top speed. Realised quickly that I needed to keep it in 5th gear and total throttle to hit max speed. Even doing that wasn’t enough to keep up. But the red beast just kept going.
TB entertained himself by hooking into some road riders doing 150km. Even that didn’t scare the big kangaroo who was grazing on the side of the road. Krusty and I both looked at it with bludging eyes but luckily it was more interested in eating.
We waited, waited, talked, snorted at the meeting spot but after Krusty received txt from Lotsa/MickP plans had changed as MickP lost a pannier and was doubling back.
So we decided to look for Lotsa & MickP. Hit some firetrails and wasn’t long in before we found the guys. After Lotsa shared his snakes and we chewed the fat it was decided we would head to Wollembi and Lotsa & MickP would continue to head West… not sure where…. But they had a GPS!!
On to Wollombi we went. The boys were patient with my speed. Lots of open firetrails. This is where Krusty came unstuck. A drain pipe clipped his front tyre and instead of following the corner to the right he went straight. Only problem was that there was a 30f drop after the lip. Somehow after putting his right leg out to help corner he jarred it but stopped going over the lip (only just). TB was gone. We stopped 50m down the road and Krusty got off and I didn’t realise he was hurt. I just thought he needed to kiss the ground and thank god he didn’t see what was 30ft down the hill. But alas the cry’s of pain came out and the softer side of me came out…. For a minute. TB came back… told Krusty to suck it up, get on his bike and ride….. such a bloke.
So on we went. TB decided to hang behind us…. Not sure why but became evident when I decided to hit a corner that made me go the long way round. I suppose after 12months of riding I’m so new to the do’s and don’ts. Well on this corner I survived a ‘don’t’ … but only just. The corner was tar’ed with some gravel and somehow I lost the front tyre and went straight for a big post and wire fence. Somehow I remembered that “when in doubt throttle it out’ well I did that but the bike bucked and I just held on and not looked at the fence. I think that was one of my nine lives used up. After bit of a fist punch in the air and open the throttle the adrenaline was pumping like a drug. TB had his cheap entertainment for the day.
Onto the pub and downed a rum and coke that didn’t touch the sides. Krusty required lots of TLC (including drugs and alcohol). When you equate TB’s and my TLC support levels…. It was very low…. Krusty wanted to ring home to get more….. we laughed.
After long wait for hamburger we were itching to get going. The Girls Ride Out group had their annual catch up at the pub and provided some eye candy for the guys… well sort of.
We headed for home and enjoyed the two river crossing that gave us some photo opportunities.
Then back to the starting point and thanks to TB the bike was loaded onto the trailer. 300km and still feeling like I could do more.
Its always a good ride if you and the bike are back in one piece and you come away feeling like you’ve learnt something. Thanks to TB and Krusty for a great day that will have me smiling all week.
Photo’s to come.
August 8, 2010 at 10:51 am #185509Hey Kat I gave him plenty of support on the track side for a while  I only gave him what I expected when I did mine three weeks ago honest
I rang and checked he got home safe as well
You shouldn’t worry about your trail pace, you travel good you really do honest you did a great job today.
How you didnt fall at that causeway corner was beyond me and I thought it had more arse then a bus load of poofters   But then while riding home tonight after we all went our seperate ways, I started replaying it in my mind and realised you never panicked during the whole front end then rear end loss and thats why you rode it out, well done.
Yes I packed everything that I will be taking to the corner with me except the tiny gas bottle and panniers, the racks and the bike handled it so well. I used the standard semi road tyres and felt confident enough all day to point the front end wherever I wanted it, for that I think I need to thanks Teknik’s.
Two river cruises woman two river cruises!!!! Some people are never pleased

August 8, 2010 at 11:05 am #185495I’m glad to hear Krusty got home safely. Thanks for your kind words. I didn’t realise I double dipped and lost both front and back wheels and lived thru it without injury. The river cruises topped the day off and the laughs where plentiful. Take care of that knee… I still can’t believe your road those firetrails on that bike and a dickie knee.

August 8, 2010 at 11:10 am #185511A few photos to go with mickP’s report.
Stopped at the top of Murrays Run
We got to Howes Trail gate
All was going well until we got to the gate on Howes Trail just before the Putty Rd and Mick went to get something out of his pannier.
What is missing from this photo
So we went back to the Yengo turnoff looking for the contents of Micks saddle bag which we found in various placed. I think all was recovered except for the KTM tool pouch. We bumped into another Mick and his nephew and during our chat I mentioned I saw a mandarin, near a large tree right next to the track, that had come out of Micks saddle bag and I was going to pick up on the way back.
When I got there all I found of the mandarin was this
I hope it tasted nice MickMickP just over the bridge on the Commission track
Refuel from the super tanker on the California track
California track erosion humps
At the Putty end of Old Bulga track
Start of the Convict track
This is on the Convict track and apparently links up to the Yengo track.
Does anyone know.
Finished up at Brathwaite park in the dark.
Top ride even though it didn’t work out as planned.
Maybe lunch at Denman next Saturday I think.
August 8, 2010 at 10:13 pm #185496Well what can I say.. Nothing better than good company, clear skies and a day in the saddle.. 360 K’s round trip from home to home for me.. It wasn’t as bad as I had expected however we had some short breaks here and there to break up the monotony.. I departed home around 8 a.m. and got to the meeting point around 20-25 minutes later.. After a quick woof down of a Bacon Egg Sandwich a cappuccino and a hello how goes it between TB, Kat and I we headed to the meet point..
Tar Tar and more Tar.. I changed the gearing on Saturday to 15/44 from 14/46 and she liked it a whole lot better.. Sweet spot was about 115 but she would take 120-125 before the revs started to concern me.. I don’t like to high rev and I know some other banana owners have done 125+ on the stock gearing but too much screaming from the motor for my liking.. After arriving at the meet point we laughed and joked and laughed and joked.. I found a text message from Mick and Lotsa explaining what their situation was.. We waited for about 40 minutes and decided to head their way as TB knew the path they were taking.. Some good fun down a fire trail jumping water diversions and the like we finally ran into the boys.. Some hellos and hows it goings and then off our separate ways..
Everything was going great blasting along enjoying the tracks and then around 20-30 minutes from Wollombi my day went to shit.. I hit something in the middle of the road just before a right hand corner and the bike began to buck.. I stuck my legs out to try and get balance back and I came down hard onto my right leg while it was stiff bending at the knee either in, out or slightly opposite of the normal bend I’m really not sure.. Pain rushed through my leg very intense and the ordeal caused me to veer to left towards the left edge of the road while in the turn.. Adrenaline kicked in and some how I managed to keep the bike riding along the slight berm on the edge and brought it back to the middle of the road.. I slowed down, came to a stop, got off the bike and hit the ground as the adrenaline subsided and the pain came to life.. After a few minutes the pain subsided and we continued on to have lunch.. Depending on how I walked the knee would give out and the leg collapse, so I walk very little and tried to suck as much sympathy from TB and Kat as one could, however they would have none of it.. Very funny pics of this to come I’m sure..
We continued on to Laguna and then Wisemens Ferry and then onto Windsor.. I got home around 5 p.m. packed up an stripped down.. Based on advice from Kat and TB I propped the leg up and iced it 20 min on 20 min off for the next 3-4 hours.. By the end of the night it was very stiff and I cold barely walk on it.. When I awoke this am it wasn’t as pain full however still stiff and I cannot bend it very much before it starts to hurt.. Slightly swollen on the outside(right leg).. Walking is do-able without to much pain.. hmmmmm… I see a doc at 9 am and I guess go from there..
Hopefully Kat and TB are right and she comes good quickly.. A pulled muscle or tendon is what they seem to think I did??
Thanks to Kat and TB for a great day..
Cheers…

August 9, 2010 at 2:10 am #185498How good was that Kat.. That shot of the Oh my knee Oh my knee photo is gold!!!
Kat your on the trail knee assessment was correct. Doc said that I seem to have Lateral Collateral Ligament stretching/bruising and possibly Medial Collateral Ligament bruising.. Instructions were rest and if pain does not subside by Wednesday he gave me a referral for x-rays.. I need to him again friday and then physio on friday for exercise instructions.. He gave me Anaprox 550 which appears to be an anti-inflammatory.. Did various tests and he was surprised at how little pain there was for the tests performed.. Only pain is bending past the point of standard sitting position and a slight bit while walking..
Looks like I may have got off lucky…
August 9, 2010 at 6:07 am #185530Sounds like a good day out
get well soon krusty i’m starting to think you are avoiding me
August 10, 2010 at 12:08 am #185499Nice report guys thanks for sharing.
Kat, how did the bike and you handle all the tar on this ride ? All Good ?
August 10, 2010 at 1:12 am #185500Good Morning Riggs,
The bike went well on the Tar… Just had to leave the throttle in one position (Fully Open) but could only get it up to 110km. That’s a good thing as I can’t afford to lose any points.
My body rattled but thats normal. I wore my BMW Rally Jacket that I’m taking on my trip. It’s like riding in a quilt with the liner attached. I got a bit moist when we hit the trails but that was due to the increase in the fun factor …. but I’m sure the liner did its bit to cook me.
All good and ready to do it again this weekend. Hope to see you out there.
