Long time customer discovered his DR650 subframe had cracked. Uses a Giant loop bag at the back of his rack, was too much for the subframe. I took some photos to show how we repaired it.
Cut the subframe off, machined up some slugs and did some rosette welds to hold it all together.

Had some Tenere engine paint, it’s a pretty good match.

Nice work on the welding, tell him to pack lighter next time !! The mighty old DR is well known as a pack horse and I have seen them loaded to the hilt but never seen one break there.
Seen a few ktm 690 go there but

    Yeah, great repair work Nick.

There is NO rear subframe to break there on a 690 Boulder,, The plastic rear tank is the entire back end
That`s why I bought the double leg support Touratech rack setup for when carrying a load ;)

That one I believe was repaired twice (the welds are a give away) honestly but what has he been carrying?

There must be more to that one, loose engine mounts? Seized linkages? It’s broken on the heat affected zone. Again.
I have a series of photos for the BMW800 top shock mount repair too, it’s pretty full on

Google DR650 frame breakage / break etc and you will find it isnt a one off. They are under the pump when we load and ride them the way we do :P

I will start a rebuild thread on Strucky’s Tenere later, it had a massive hit. The hit was hard enough for both the bulbs to fly out of the holders in the headlight. The rear rack plate is bent, the hit was massive yet the frame apart from a radiator mount bent is 100%. Lefty and I have been amazed because it was cart wheeled at speed
