however the lack of a visor is a pain so I’m saving for a AGV AX-8. Though about the cheapies but quality is worth saving for.NFHU, be careful buying helmets OS. Currently if they don’t have the Australian Standards sticker they are not legal for use in Australia even though they are the exact same helmet from the same factory.
I believe the Australian Motor Cycle Council are currently pushing for oversees standards (which are more stringent than Australian standards) be recognised here in Australia. Finger crossed this will happen and we will no longer be ripped off the helmets.
May 23, 2012 at 12:18 am #221532While on the topic of ADV lids,,,,
I got my new Fly the other day and wondering if I should treat the visor with RainX or Mr Sheen etc ????
Would like to do something before next weeks run to Sunny Corner and odds are high, no extremely high on getting fogged, misted and/or wet :laugh:What have you guys found works the best so far

Mr Sheen Eags for mind same same and easy to lay your hands on
Sadly I must say I tried a Fly for a local ride last year, new loaned by someone interested in selling them. On the way out of Sydney more rain ran down the inside of the visor than outside  Hope it was just a poor fit on that one
I should do my visor now you have reminded me

May 23, 2012 at 12:33 am #221533Yeah, I read many reviews on all types in the price range and more were good rather than bad in favour of the FLY
The fit, weight and comfort seem good so far and at $200 I will see how it goes. Have been copping rain in the face for years now , so it`s gotta be better than that I figure
Remember the Caves to Caves ride ???? The rain on that stung the shit out of me nearly all weekend :pinch:I have Rainx here, so might use that up then,,, thanx
Cheers
May 23, 2012 at 1:02 am #222324I have a Suomy off road helmet that cost a heap 8 years back. Great fit, light weight – can wear it all day, excellent vision, removable/washable liner and good vents etc. I still have it and still wear it.
I also have a R-Jays road helmet i bought a few months ago. Don’t right R-Jays off. Yes they are cheap but they conform to Aussie standards, the visor doesn’t leak and i have been for some long rides and find it pretty comfortable. It also has a first click on the visor that is firm and lets a little air in to keep me cool in Summer. I don’t find it too heavy after a day of riding and it has a washable liner.
Downsides are visor fogs up a bit(which can be sorted with the first click) and the vents don’t work all that well. All in all, good value for money i reckon($110).
This is the one i will be wearing on the S.C ride.
May 23, 2012 at 1:03 am #222319She’s sweet. I just used the US link as the Aussie “Helmet wharehouse” site was playing up.

May 23, 2012 at 1:10 am #222328Ace is the Rjay a road helmet or the Adventure Helmet (Dakar)? I only ask because I said to lefty the other day at Sutto’s that road helmets (any) are the best, dont leak, are quiet and light weight. Trouble is you look like a KTM 690 riding poofter in one on an adventure bike  :pinch:

Ive always though the same TB. Plenty of great road bike helmets out there that would make very comfy and functional ADV helmets but they just look wrong. We all know ADV is all about the image.
May 23, 2012 at 1:16 am #222330Road helmet TB.
Yeah i know the look isn’t that good on an adv bike but hey i ride a BMW so i look like a poofter anyway

May 23, 2012 at 1:32 am #222336i use a road helmet when i ride on the road don t care about looks sometimes it ends up in single track.better all round than a motocross helmet(on the road or dirt road).never used an adventer helmet but.
May 23, 2012 at 1:39 am #222340For sure Rocket. Much better all around.
I was thinking the other day, why there is a need for a motocross style helmet at all – even for racing? What real purpose does having that big open front and then covering it with goggles have.
Maybe i am overlooking something really obvious?
