I am looking into switching to a 2T, probably a 300 as I feel they would better suit riding tight ST and hills using the low to mid power, rather than revving a 200 and clutching. I am only around the 70Kg mark so the recent ride on a lighter 2T was impressive, and saved a lot of energy when man handling or lifting, etc.

The fitness / strength is growing more important as I ride less and less at the moment, with 2 very young kids and a third due in June, I don’t exactly ride often or get time to keep to fit, and the 570 berg is awesome but can remove your arms from their sockets in any gear.

I will probably sell the Berg private, rather than trade, as its only got about 1200K’s, 33 Hours, and it just on 8 months old (Bought it new last of 2009 stock with WEC kit promotion). My bike is very clean and fully maintained and serviced, and has already had the KTM / Berg bugs sorted (So the annoying shite is out of the way now), such as the Timing chain tensioner, and extra fuel filter to keep injection clean. None the less its the lighter and less physical 2T thats got my interest. PM me if the Berg of interest?

So I am posting to ask what 2T 300’s people can recommend, and why (KTM, Husky, Gas Gas, TM???). And also if there is any advice on where to shop, I would get some quotes on a trade but usually dealers shaft you on trade in and go for full retail on the new bike.

Most important to me is “Out of the box” ride-ability, I don’t wanna spend a few more $$$K and stuff around to set up suspension, or fix handling or tuning issues.

As I’m a real novice with this proper trail thing after many years of trail riding on a trials bike, I pinched the cook’s XT250. Yeah I know it’s a 4T, but it ticked all the right boxes, light, fun and with more k’s on the clock I reckon it’ll get more power out of it. As you will read in other posts, it got up some snotty hills around Nowra with the slightest of moaning. I also have an IT400 I want to get on the trails, but it has to be rego’d.
I’ve heard the TM and the KTM do great 2T in the 250 and 300 range, but I think you have to sort the suspension etc to get the most outa them.
    Good luck!

Mate I stepped off a 525 and onto a KTM 300 and I will never look back, at the end of a good ride I can fuel up and go out for more.
With the 300 I find the tight singles a lot more fun and my hill climbing has improved aswell, I like hard rides and love stupid hill climbs and the 300 was a good choice.
    Love the 2 strokes.

ive ridden the berg 570 a fair bit and reckon they are shit hot. if i was to get a 4T, that would be it.

the KTM i can speak for…

    loads of torques for snottyness,

and ripping power is just a twist away.

only 103kg, plenty nimble and good for singles,

ergonomically similar to the bergs too :)

    SOLD!!!

Hey Damo, mate all of the new 300’s are pretty damn good now adays.

The KTM is a great all rounder able to do anything anywhere “E-start” and except for the PDS everything is sorted, they may be a bit taller in the saddle if anything plenty of Bling stuff available as well. Sutto;s will look after you with the spares as well.
The Husky is a very good thing with plenty of poke maybe a little dated in its styling and parts can be an issue but that is probably being sorted by the take over from BMW. I think Mal may have had a few issues with his 09 300 but you see plenty of em at the 4 day.R&D Husky at Emu Plains NSW are the go to guys for the right advice IMHO on anything Husky.
TM300 is a great bike with plenty of the go fast stuff as standard, they have been tamed down in the last few years as well but can really light up when the noise maker is wound open, downside is they run a single ring (more maintenance) ans have heard that some have crank seal issues. top notch suspension etc and Cross action motorcycles are a great bunch of blokes.

The Gasgas is a fantastic trail bike and ever increasingly popular they come with lots of good stuff standard and there is plenty of after market stuff now being made for them. These bikes have a lower seat height to suit short arses like me. MudnTar at Wauchope help me out bigtime with spares and Scotties in VIC are also awsome with loads of knowledge. Spare parts prices are very realistic and available quickly. The Euro shown below is a limited edition and this engine hauls:woohoo: :woohoo: The new 2011 300;s have a beefed up starter and looks damn sexy

Next ride lets swap for the whole day :woohoo: ! if were both happy maybe we strike a deal? not much diff between market values?? It also gives us both a try of something different!!!

That way I can maybe do something sooner rather then waiting for wife to allow me to spend a few $$$K for the next toy……would be like swapping wives after a test drive LOL?? :silly:

By the way, I started my new job today :cheer: , I now work miles from home  but an OK run, new job based in Waterview Close Dandy South, plenty of room to park with a trailer, so after work rides are on Menace as I am on your doorstep!!!!!
