Quote:Would changing the jetting give me better economy?changing the jetting will alter the way the bike performs,
most bikes come jetted rich from the manufacturer, As most people spend most of the time on the needle, manufacturers of performance jets kits base their improvements mainly on the needle, Ie JDjetting. They have a red tipped needle for summer and a blue tipped needle for winter although in Aussie our temps and altitudes are usually not to the extremes of the US. However our fuel is basicly crapola and we have to adjust our jetting to suit.
You will probably get better fuel economy by altering your gearing and trying to ride a gear Higher. The 07 – 09 do appear to be fairly thirsty though and if you intend to ride longer distances a bigger tank would be a good investment

January 24, 2010 at 6:31 am #169270mines only a 06 but and it gobbles up the juice but i dont care as long as i dont run out and i have fun with it
January 24, 2010 at 6:36 am #169274I road with billies cousin at nundle and he hit the reserve on his 4fiddy really early in the ride, his bike seemed to not be running right and then he realised the choke wasnt fully open,,hence heavy fuel consumption.. just a thought.

AnonymousMy bike is an 07 – 13 tooth front 47 tooth rear sprocket for tight bush work and 14 tooth front for more open stuff. Barrett exhaust and god knows what jetting. I can get around 80 to 90km for tight bush work before reserve. More open stuff with the 14 tooth front will get me about 110km before hitting reserve.
Like TB said I do have a Safari 15.5 kitre tank which to me is a good size, doesnt make the bike feel too big, but does suffer from front end dip when tank is full.
January 24, 2010 at 7:56 am #169279For some reason i dont have to worry about fuel. You can always borrow some of mine when we ride.

Yeah, that tank looks like a SuperTanker on the WR, but surprisingly it feels quite slim & normal when you ride the beast

Holds just over 18 litres. It looks a lot bigger than it actually is. The wing part are fairly slim.

I rekon i could get 300k’s out of it. Although i’ve never been close to testing it. That figure comes from a ride i done which was pretty hard riding for 170k’s. I cant remember exactly how much fuel i used but i remember i worked out i should get 300k’s.
