December 24, 2012 at 11:35 am #234440enforcer ones are good australian made work okay on my kato anyway just standard size better than origanal
December 25, 2012 at 1:46 am #234441As you guys have worked out the R and X caliper mounts/discs are the same.
For brake disc brand it’s all over the place out there. The EBC stuff is good but we have warped a few discs on XR650R’s in Safari, always had to have spares. In the old days when Braking first made a non floating front disc for the XR600 it would not last one club day without warping.
The floating discs are much better.
3 years ago i got 2 sample KX450 270mm floating discs and caliper brackets out of China. Look like a Batfly. Cost about $25 each. Slotted wave floating. Looked OK. Asked the guy i was sponsoring in Pro Open at the time to run them on his practice bike to get some idea of the quality. He said “No fkn way am i using that chinese s%*t on my bike” and he bought a Braking Batfly for $400 (my cost). Never again will i tell a tester what a product sample costs. If they ask it’s from Austria, made by a Duval Monk and costs $5000.
Well the discs sat around i forgot about them. Gave them away a year or so ago. Then this year i see them again, in the JTR catalog, in nice RHK packaging. Same parts as I had. I called the guy i gave my disc to, he was still using it, really liked it.
So all that is cheap is not junk.December 25, 2012 at 6:53 am #234451Teknik wrote:As you guys have worked out the R and X caliper mounts/discs are the same.

it definatly seems to be a trial and error when it comes to brake rotors and seeing what suits, i got my eye on a set of rotors … and yes the front is 270mm

December 25, 2012 at 9:50 am #234455in all honesty mate,i would trial the chinga discs and see how they go. if your not happy with the way they perform or last move on and get EBC,racedisc,Galfer whatevever. for $150 dollars who cares. but rest assured the 270mm who ever makes it will be twice the disc as the standard pos honda 240mm.
good info there Nick thanks
December 25, 2012 at 10:21 pm #234454I got the RHK oversize for $250 and it fitted perfectly to my CRF and works beautifully. The added feel it brings to the front end is well worth especially if you are underwhelmed by your current setup.

December 26, 2012 at 12:16 am #234461RHK (Red Hot Kev) is Kevin Titmans own brand. He’s doing we’ll with it and beating the US Internet sales game. The 270mm discs he has are fine, I’d run one. They look so similar to the Braking Batfly it’s uncanny. Almost look like tgey are made in the same factory….
270mm is a good compromise between braking surface area and damage from ruts.December 26, 2012 at 12:27 am #234473They sound like a good thing and not a eBay shit knock off. As far as my experience goes I haven’t had any luck with cheaper brake components as you know I do more miles than most and test the gear so I went through my log books and here is my disc usage lately. On the Tenere I got 29000 and 5 sets of pads out of the original rear disc before I replaced it (worn less than 2.5mm) then used a eBay cheap one no name 11000 two and a half sets of pads it was below 2.5 and warped pushing the pads back
Fitted another OEM replacement from Germany done 9000 and one set of pads same brand and compound pads used since I replaced the first set of Yamaha ones.
The 280mm front (think its 280) EBC that came on my XR did over 42000 including Condos, a4de etc slowing my fat arse down and is still slowing Mick down now days and besides the rivets needing a tune up every now and then was awesome. I have a custom 4mm thick chain gang disc I bought of Brad. Rear disc genuine lasted 38000 eBay special 9000 same pads. Another eBay on there now because all I could get in a hurry genuine new here to go on when rebuilt.
Tried cheap pads once Ollie posted about $11 specials fitted them in Mick’s next day wheel locked up the backing plate on the pad bent!!TB
December 26, 2012 at 1:37 am #234476yeah no worries TB not having a dig I know that some pads are stupidly cheap and quality is definatley out the window. The racediscs I get for the GG are made in Britain and are very good.
The o/size disc I put on my CRF front end works great cant fault it actually but then again I also havnt put that many miles on it either, guess time will tell, but it was available and affordable at the time and for a trailrider plonker like me does the job well. hope it continues in that vain, if it doesnt I will get a different brand.ollie
