I have always used Micks Metal Craft in Kings Park. 9755 7137

Melissa Av kings Park next to Pirtek. He’s not the cheapest around but IMO his weld quality is pretty awesome.

i could be totally guessing here Moto, but when am i not:S

to do 2 muffler mounts should not be any more than an hours work, so should only be the rate the guy charges for per hour.

tig/ alloy filler costs/charged at about $1 per stick if bought individually , i don’t know if they charge for argon? i doubt they could work it out per litre so would be factored into the hourly rate.

at the outside most, it would not take anymore than 3 sticks of filler wire, if it is just cracked/ broken off.

if you clean all the spots well to be welded with stainless wool, you usually use a stainless wire brush to knock the oxide off the alloy, they will only have to weld it.

cleaning takes more time than the actual welding it’s self.

as usual i hope this helps but replies/time will only tell:huh:

Thank you XY I know you intended to help :)

What I am after is the actual cost to do the job though, I can make a guess as good as the next guy based on the invoices I used to get daily from the welders and boilermakers I used to subcontract :)

The thing is welders all charge different rates so guessing an hourly rate, whilst it may be close isn’t what I’m after. The guy TB uses seems very cheap and TB swears by his quality.

Don’t take this as a moan, it’s good that you have taken the time and bothered to reply, I’m just a miserable old bas**rd

Since you’ve been so good I’ll change you rank back to normal now :P

Mines cracked at muffler mounts also, must be a husky trait. But has copped some decent hits there.

An exhuast shop might be the go, ]a lot of them are into cars etc and might have the right gear.

    cheers

Dave’s Husky 610 did the same at the end of the Safari. Who woulda thunk that 3800km of racing would cause anything to break?

Dave uses a local guy in Orange for alloy welding, did a mickey mouse job on the custom bash plate water tank. If anyone is interested I can get the details for you. Long trip for a small job though!
