Well,
As some of you may have already seen, I have been slowly building up an ADV Setup for my ride.
It started back in January when I acquired TB`s AndyStrapz Bags that I used on the infamous Nabiac Museum Ride in Feb.
I then grabbed a set of Stainless Steel TOURATECH Racks from a guy on ADV Australia. The same design is available in Powder Coated Steel, but I couldn`t resist the bargain at the time (basically half price)
As soon as the 690 arrived I had them bolted on to check it all out. They solid & well designed, with double braces each side down to the footpeg area (this add strength to the subframeless 690 rear end so you can carry a load more securely). There is also a rear brace that links the two sides together and provides stiffness in the event of a lay down etc (also a handy place to bolt on a Tooltube etc)

The Andys Bags attach real well & sit nice & snug, the addition of my home made Backing Plates also help hold them out away from the pipe (but there is heaps of room anyway)
see here http://www.obtrailriders.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=76&id=105062&Itemid=75I am planning to eventually bolt on some Aluminium Plates to replace these & also give me the option of Rotopax Fuel & Water containers for bigger trips.
The Andys Bags hold a heap of gear with the ability to be let out to full capacity, or simply rolled down for smaller loads. I have an inner waterproof bag from Andy Strapz as well (as the bags are not 100 percent waterproof) but I have given them a good soaking with a water repallant spray to help in that regard as well,,,,
As yet I have no rear top rack, but am eyeing off a B&B type rack to strap on the 2 man tent & small campchair. I did strap them onto the rear of the seat a few weeks back & had a bit of a run to test it out, and they sat well (although I need to access the rear of seat fuel fill, so a rack may be a bit better)
It will be a setup that evolves in time, so I will update as other bits are added, tried & tested
July 25, 2011 at 12:17 am #203343I got a bit bored this weekend at home inbetween work & family duties, so I snuck downstairs into the cave at every opportunity !
Came up with this idea to store some tubes, levers, spare parts etc when I finally get out for a weekend trip on the 690.Had some 90mm tube laying around & guess what? Cut it in half & it made two tubes just under 400mm each
Ducked over to Bunnings to get some end caps (grand total of around $11), stuck them on using the PVC adhesive I had at home
And Presto, Two storage Tubes ready for paint (you could leave them white also I suppose, but I had time to burn)
Made some lanyards for the lids (I had some hardware laying around that I had acquired on past boat build jobs)
All attached, just need to grab a couple of slightly longer worm drive clamps (mine were 20 mm too short)
Left some space between tubes & the Pannier frames for straps to secure the Andyz Bags

Best bit is,, It takes me all of 15mins to undo 8 bolts & the whole rack assembly is off
Easy as !!!July 25, 2011 at 12:43 am #203344Your setup is coming together nicely, I like the tubes. I recently got a Mountain Designs duffel bag for the top gear(self inflating mattress, tent, sleeping bag, chair and a few other bits and bobs.) As good as any bike specific bags that i have seen.

Nice bag there mate
I will be after something similar but a tad smaller after I get the rear rack setup. The 690 has no rear subframe (that`s the reason for the double braces down the side to the peg area)
So I don`t want to load it up too much :whistle:Cheers
