Just thought people would be interested as often we wonder why areas get closed off to bikes, but when this type of crap happens can we really not blame the authorities (note that pics and article copied from DBW as it was already posted when I came across it)
Quote:NPWS investigates vandal attack at Bendethra camping groundThe NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has launched an investigation into a weekend of rampant vandalism at the Bendethra Camping area within Deua National Park west of Moruya.
NPWS staff carried out a routine inspection of the popular camping ground on Monday and was amazed to see the level of damage wrought on the site.
NPWS Far South Coast Regional Manager, Tim Shepherd, said today he was disgusted by the scale of the attack.
“Bendethra has been a target before but this time they have really caused some extensive damage.
“It would appear that the damage has been caused by a group of trail bike riders and four-wheel drives.
“Random circle work has been carried out in a wet camp ground across the flats.
“A section of Joeys Flat that had previously been used as a ‘mud pit’ by four-wheel—drive and motorcyclists was rehabilitated after previous vandalism earlier this year. This has been effectively reopened and destroyed again over the weekend.
“Silt fencing we installed to rehabilitate a steep section between the homestead paddock and Joeys Flat has been used for ‘hill climbing’ and the hill has been badly trashed.
“As if this wasn’t enough, the interpretation shelter which provides information for visitors about the Bendethra area, its history and natural features has been pulled out of the ground and smashed on the road.
“A broken motorcycle tie-down strap was found tied to one of the shelter uprights and obviously used to rip the shelter down.
“The vast majority of visitors who visit the Bendethra camping area are responsible people who show great care for the area and appreciate what the NPWS tries to do there in providing an amenable camping ground.
“Every now and then we get vandals whose mindless acts of violence destroy the area for everyone.
“We have previously caught and fined people for such acts at Bendethra because of the support from the general public in providing information that helps us catch the culprits.
“I’m hoping some was there to witness and record details so they can let us know who might have done this.
“We will be involving police in this investigation and when we catch those responsible I will make sure that they feel the fullest extent of the law.
“I anyone knows or saw anything in relation to this incident I’d urge them to contact the Narooma office of the NPWS as soon as possible on 44762888,” Mr Shepherd said.
As an aside, I have contacted the office just to voice a little support in the hope that they catch these idiots as IMO, the authorities need to know that genuine and responsible riders abhor this type of behaviour.

June 12, 2009 at 5:08 am #139212The people who do this are not in any way bike or 4WD enthusiatists, they are meatheads, morons, and worse.
Just like not all soccer fans are football hooligans.
Bleedin’ shame though, cause i know first hand how much the parkies and state forests blokes love “their” accolpishments, that probably would’ve been some ordinary navvy field workers project he championed, convinced his bosses to do and then got done.

June 12, 2009 at 5:11 am #139213You are right, any wonder places get closed.WE had a similar incident at a really nice place here. It has since been closed off to all vehicular traffic indefinatly and can only be accessed on foot and they closed it off that far from the actual place you wouldn’t bother walking there.
June 12, 2009 at 5:17 am #139217Why would some clown even think about doing such a vandalis act..????

AnonymousDICK HEADS:angry:   – obviously a weekend on the piss, all full of themselves and stuff it for the rest of us.
I bet an act of vandilism like that made them feel like big men.
Thanks to all those wankers who wreck it for everyone else.
June 12, 2009 at 10:40 am #139220That sort of ‘mud trenching’ is exactly what was done down in ‘Limeburners’ (the track we couldn’t go down on the Caves ride) It was all locked up because of these same sort of 4×4 idiots. Ruins it for all of us.
CrashJune 12, 2009 at 11:03 am #139247All in all the mess left by those people is disgraceful,The vandalism is unexceptable however we all (dirtbike riders) also need to be mindful that continually riding them rutted out trails in the wet is possibly doing the trail no help what so ever, so we need to be responsible for our actions,An example is i heard there is a trail ride down south ,I think the watagans area that will have approx 600 riders,If the organizer and or participants read this please consider I am only voiceing my opinion at to what I think is wrong. 600 spinning rear wheels on the one track is gunna make a mess,I am sure these kind of rides could be capped at a reasonable number to help preserve our riding ground for the future.Lets look after our sport is all Im on about and if I offended anyone sorry.

If that happens after the event then I consider that to be responsible for our actions and I would take part in that event,
June 13, 2009 at 10:50 am #139214Lets fish these fkrs out.
This s*#t makes my blood boil. I have contacted everyone i know who rides ACT – Bendethra, Kowen, Tally to ask around and see if they know of anyone who went out there for the long weekend. Its a small community, and words gets around.
Call your mates, shoot a couple of emails out, do whatever. It would be very satisfying if we could present these bastards to the authorities on the behalf of responsible users.
