I just did a valve clearance check on the bike and found that ALL five valves need to be done:(

If there are any altruistic wr450 or crf450 owners that have unwanted 9.48 shims that are just sitting around, and would like to help out an old unemployed bull, by donating them to my worthy cause, please feel free to PM me. I am looking for 2 x 175,2 x 182.5 (honda shims?) and a 180. Anything pretty close to these would be helpful as these calculations of shim size, put me in the middle of the tolerance range. Hence, I can go up or down a teeny weeny bit.

    Regards,

    Nigel

Mate… wet and dry? Jesus you go about things the hard way. An oil stone is the go.
Also brings copper and aluminium sump plug washers back to life:)

Best get yourself an oil stone. Job is done in half the time and allows you to get back to drinkin’ quicker.

I am with you on that one buddy. The shims look like hard work to me,The KTM530 has em but at 82hrs she still hasn’t needed them changed yet. All still within spec.

Oh well:( Looks like I am going to have to fork out some bucks for tiny pissy bits of steel. I’ll just look at them as some sort of investment 😆 Thanks for listening.

I think I’ll save up a bit and buy a Hotcams shim kit. That way I have a big range and I can do deals with others at a later date, who may want to swap shims….with a small handling fee.
