The APC Rally started today from various locations around the huge Multi-State course
Here is a link to the Spot trackers to keep an eye on.http://rally.australianpropertycentre.net.au/?p=355
One notable day 1 drama was sadly Andy (El Ponkin from ADV) who hit a car on the Coffs Coast
Apparently his KTM 990 is , quote “ROOTED” but rider is OKJuly 23, 2011 at 12:06 am #205320I met a few guys in Tabulam today who went to one of the send offs and they said it was predominately KTMs , youd like that Eags !!
July 23, 2011 at 12:09 am #205321Yeah mate,,,
Sounds like a great challenge actuallyWell organised & looks like they have good coverage throughout the event (although they are pretty much on their own as far as everything goes out there , True ADV Style)
Maybe one year in the future I will be up for something like this
July 23, 2011 at 3:26 am #205337I have a heap of the guys spots loaded into my favorites and have been watching with interest since it started. John the ograniser claimed that there was less than 400 kms bitumen in the 7000 route.

July 23, 2011 at 3:30 am #205322Yep,
They did a tonne of planning & pre running / exploring to set the route hey ???
A massive adventure in itself I reckon,,,,
but it would kill me to set it up then have to sit in the office on the pc watching over the crew out on the course :whistle:July 23, 2011 at 12:19 pm #205342Trailboss wrote:John the ograniser claimed that there was less than 400 kms bitumen in the 7000 route.TB
It looks like a lot of tar on the spots.
Man, this is good watching them and frustrating having my bike in pieces. My coffee has gone cold and I don’t know where an hour has gone while watching this.
Check out Darren Young. He has already done 6 days. Looks like a lot are turning back west of Birdsville. Probably havn’t got their floaty’s on.
July 25, 2011 at 12:30 am #205323So this is the aftermath of poor old mates run in with a car on day ONE of the APC

At least he made it home safe,,,,,
There have been some real interesting events so far on the rally, guys off track, bike stopped, needing parts etc etc :whistle:Go Hard guys & Good Luck with the remainder of the ride
July 25, 2011 at 12:38 am #205418Should be mentioned Beags that ol mate tossed the big KTM down the bitumen road under the front of a car not the car drivers fault (probably where all katos should be   nah sorry ) It sounds like he was very lucky and it’s not good seeing anyones bike damaged
Johns doing a good job of keeping people updated and helping them get parts etc I reckons massive job.

Maybe an OBT team should be in next year

All in a days work, from John
It is full on from about 5-30 am till 8-00 am then it setttles down to about 5 calls per hour. Then it heats up at about 6-0o pm to 9-00 pm.
Today in summary.
1. medivac 20 km west of dennilquin
2. 3 occasions where riders have been seperated from mates . They call me and I look at the spot trackers and tell them where they are.
3. Parts getting flown into two locations to keep riders going.
4.Track diversion put in place at a section after Dennilquin due to rain.
5. Marcelle my mechanic has done two phone consulstation on fixing stuff. On one of these the rider used there camera phone so marcelle could help diagnose the problem.
6. Diverted one rider with less experience around a difficult section, we had already nutted out a system where he would call me if he found one section hard so we could benchmakr his ability. With all this said it is the other riders on the course that are helping riders make it to the end of each day.

I had read that at ADV as well, I thought there was no assistance from the organisers in the sup regs? It’s bloody good he is though

July 25, 2011 at 1:22 am #205424Yeah. It looks like no Simpson crossing this year which is a pitty and understandable seeing as it only opened a couple of days ago.
Some guys are making good time on the spot trackers. The 990s would be eating up the open stuff.
Very inspiring to get the DR back on the road asap
July 27, 2011 at 10:12 pm #205425The KTMs are dropping like flys in the APC mostly 690s, here is my favorite quote from today

.Dominator is a Honda Beags
a NX yeah a dirty old NX saves the day

How did I know this would come up sooner or later ????
Yeah, I have been following closely each day, there have been quite a few dramas (various makes of bike too I might add) 😆With that sort of route, I think I would pack a spare injector onboard maybe (just in case)
There are some great stories unfolding daily, How a bout the girl (Kristen) on the DR, She is going great guns :woohoo:
