Craig that’s a treat of a thread mate, 2 thumbs up although Kylie was keeping those graphics a secret till the bike was finished

Thanks for the tips. I got a question does this technique work with those decals that have a removable side on the underneath and a clear plastic on the outside that is peeled away after the decal is applied-to leave only the decal behind?? I got a Montesa 248 Cota one to do its about 3ft long and goes from the tank down to the side plate to under the seat, and I am worried about muffing it

    Thanks

    Just a add on.

I had the young fellas graphics peeling off everywhere (dodgy application)
Striped them off scrubbed the plastics back and stuck some d.s. tape from the floor coverings tool chest on the graphics, they were only cheap ones (paper thin)and what a out come! , the strengh from the tape was amazing on plastic and at 1.5 inch wide it didnt take much at all.
@ 0.3mm (aparently) thick it worked a treat the graphics almost seemed top quality

    4 mths wear and counting

It should work, the only decals we have been advised not to do with the wet method are reflective ones like used with road signs and some signs we do on vehicles and for roadside etc. I would give it a go as the decal is pretty long and would be tricky to keep in alignment even for someone with experience. You wouldnt try and remove the clear protective layer until maybe the next day as it might lift the decal itself away from the surface. Once you have removed it wave the heatgun over it again and make sure its all down in contact with the surface. Remember use a pin to remove any obvious bubbles by squeezing the air out after pricking the little sucker. Smaller less obvious bubbles should disperse within a few days as the moisture evaporates. I would be careful not to heat the decal too much with the clear protective layer still on as it might act like a shrinky and curl up or melt.

A Quality thread indeed, quite unusual around here, good work Mr Cee. Can I make it into a tech tip like article and then sticky it???

I dont mind what you do with it, especially when I dont know what a sticky is !
